We are happy to share that December 9, 2018 is the 20th anniversary of the first appearance by a Sourcebooks title on the New York Times bestsellers list!
In December of 1998, We Interrupt This Broadcast by Joe Garner, with CDs narrated by Bill Kurtis, appeared on the Hardcover Nonfiction list. In 1998 Sourcebooks was still a very small publisher, with no concept that making the New York Times list was even possible — or how one found out about it. That fall, we shipped thousands of copies of We Interrupt This Broadcast (a $45 value, complete with CDs) and the enthusiasm about the book by our bookselling partners was incredible. On a late Wednesday afternoon in December, a bookstore called us to say we had made the New York Times bestseller list. They emphasized that "we" had made the list, which was fitting then and now: the Sourcebooks team includes our authors, of course, and it also includes our partners and champions in the bookselling and librarian communities. They are the folks who are boots-on-the-ground during the holiday season, working tirelessly to put just the right book in the right reader’s hands. We applaud them – we’re proud to be on a team together. Comments are closed.
