The 2nd Annual Books Change Lives cocktail party and author event, held at the American Writers Museum on Wednesday night, was truly extraordinary. Approximately 100 independent booksellers (including Anderson's Bookshop, 57th Street Books, Booked Bookstore, and SO MANY MORE), librarians, ALA staffers, B&N stores, industry professionals, and authors gathered for the annual event celebrating authors and books that change lives. The evening kicked off with some amazing words from the legendary Roberta Rubin, co-chair of the board of directors of the American Writers Museum, who introduced Dominique. Dominique’s vision behind this event was to thank everyone in our community who has supported and grown with us over the past year. Her words about how books ultimately helped shape the course of her life were incredibly moving and reinforced why she is so passionate about books and the authors who write them. Sourcebooks authors in attendance included:
Each author shared deeply personal stories of their writing journey and how having Sourcebooks as a publisher has changed their life. A short author Q&A followed, and the evening wrapped up with each attendee receiving a book-filled gift bag and an opportunity to have the authors sign those books Books Change Lives notecards, sharing stories about how books have changed Sourcebooks's employees' lives, were displayed throughout the museum for guests to read and discuss. As a result, many guests came back to the registration desk to ask for a card of their own. Because the stories moved them. Because the stories inspired them. Because the stories made them want to share their own story about a book that changed their life.
We'd love for you to share which book changed your life and why in the comments!
