The Young Adults’ Choices Reading List is an annual list developed by the International Literacy Association (ILA). It aims to give young adults an opportunity to voice their opinions about book written for them by developing an annotated list of book selected by teens themselves. Every year, 12,500 students in grades 7–12 read and select 30 titles from books donated from North American publishers to curate the list. After the Fire is a 2020 nominee for the Rhode Island Teen Book Award, and Illegal is a 2020 nominee for the Rhode Island Middle School Book Award. The Rhode Island Teen Book Award is sponsored by the School Librarians of Rhode Island (SLoRI) and the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA). The goal of the award is to promote quality literature for teens by highlighting well-written books that will encourage teens not only to read more, but discuss the books they read with others. The Rhode Island Middle School Book Award is also sponsored by the SLoRI and RILA, and aims to serve the same purpose as the teen book award, but for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. The Bank Street Best Children’s Books of the Year are lists of titles for librarians, educators, parents, and other adults chosen by the Children’s Book Committee at the Bank Street College of Education. 600 titles are chosen each year by reviewers who look for literary quality, excellence in presentation, and the potential emotion impact of the books on young readers.
