Wintsch teaches women to embrace their vulnerabilities, set reachable goals and to find the middle-ground between suffering and struggling in Slay Like A Mother
Mothers aren’t at war with other mothers, argues Katherine Wintsch, they’re at war with themselves. The debut author, a corporate consultant who conducts global research on the lives of mothers, asks women in her workshops to write down the last terrible thing they said to themselves. They frequently fill up multiple sheets of paper with examples from that day, even when Ms. Wintsch is asking them at 10 a.m. --Ellen Gamerman, Wall Street Journal We are excited to share that P is for Pterodactyl by Raj Haldar and Chris Carpenter, illustrated by Maria Beddia, has been featured in the New York Times Book Review. Last Nov. 6, a week before “P Is for Pterodactyl” came out, the kids’-book website Imagination Soup raved about it on Facebook, writing that it was “perfect for logophiles (someone who loves words)!” The post went viral and drew over 4,000 commenters, many of them word nerds who shared jokes about puns, silent letters and homophones: “Why can’t you hear a pterodactyl using the bathroom? Because the P is silent!” The story blew up Reddit, too, and “P Is for Pterodactyl” sold out of its 10,800-copy first printing the day it was published. We are excited to share that Poetry Speaks to Children, the book that launched Sourcebooks into children’s book publishing and spent 17 weeks on the New York Times list, was recommended on NPR All Things Considered as the perfect introduction to poetry for kids. NPR poetry reviewer Tess Taylor said, “For young and maybe even middle grade kids there's a wonderful collection [edited] by Elise Paschen called Poetry Speaks to Children and it's full of poems that are silly and have wonderful sounds in them. It has even that Shakespeare sonnet: 'Double, double toil and trouble;/ Fire burn and cauldron bubble.' It has a poem about farts in it — always a hit! ... And I think that the poems are so fun that they remind you that poems are just for being in your mouth and helping you have a little bit of joy in language.” The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs by America's Test Kitchen is a Holiday Gift Guide Favorite12/6/2018
