A Place for Wolves by Kosoko Jackson

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe meets Code Name Verity in this extraordinary thriller from breakout #OwnVoices author Kosoko Jackson, following two teens who have to navigate love, genocide, and familiar secrets in war-torn Kosovo.

James Mills is used to being in different countries--Egypt, Russia, Kenya. He's had some tense experiences in all these foreign landscapes, thanks to his parents' jobs. But this time is different. Now that his sister is in college, he's stuck in a country he hates with no one to share with experiences with.

Enter Tomas. Falling for him is unexpected and amazing and helps James dismiss some of the growing dissent bubbling to the surface. But when long-running tensions explode, war erupts, and James and Tomas are faced with devastating violence, pain, and cruelty. Separated from their parents, their only hope is to make the treacherous journey to the U.S. embassy. They can only rely on each other, and they'll have to decide how far they're willing to go--and who they're willing to become--in order to survive.

About the author:

KOSOKO JACKSON is a vocal champion of diversity in YA literature, the author of YA novels featuring African American, queer protagonists, and a sensitivity reader for big five publishers. A 2018 GLAAD Rising Star Award winner, he strongly believes in the power of diversity, representation, and authentic stories, while also balancing the idea that people of color and queers can be heroes, not just lessons or tragedies. These are the types of stories he writes and hopes to see more of in the world.

Professionally, he is a digital media manager for a major nonprofit organization and a freelance political journalist. Currently, he works as a communications manager for an all-boys K--9 private school in the Upper East Side, where he runs social media, traditional media, the yearbook club, and the yearly literature journal. His personal essays and short stories have been featured on Medium, Thought Catalog, The Advocate, and some literary magazines.
