Chapter 1
The waxing moon was calling to her. Again. Lying on the soft mattress in Darien Silver's guest room early that spring evening, Carol Wood tried to sleep. But she felt the growing white sphere begging her to shed her human frailties and run with the magnificent grace of the wolf, strong and agile, with purpose in every stride in the crisp, cold Colorado night air.
She did not wish to be one of them—at least as far as being a part-time wolf—no matter how much several in the pack had encouraged her to embrace this new side of herself. The moon would soon be whole, but deep down she rebelled against the werewolf's curse. Because it was a curse to her, just the way her premonitions and psychic touch often were.
She'd grown up with her revved senses and had realized she couldn't do anything about that aspect of her life, once she'd learned it wasn't normal to have the abilities she did. But now to be—she squeezed her eyes tighter and rolled onto her back—a werewolf... No matter how much she wished the truth could be changed, she knew she'd have to deal with it before long. With all her heart, she prayed to keep her newly acquired bizarre condition—shape-shifting—at bay. Her body tingled with heat and her mind with apprehension. Even in the darkness of her half-asleep mind, she fought the change, fought the feeling she was losing control of her physical form. Fresh tension made every nerve ending prickle while she clutched the comforter underneath her chin.
The heat, like the sun shining on a bright and warm Caribbean afternoon, invaded every pore, signaling the unwanted craving to shift. She moaned, tightening her hold on the comforter, her nails digging into the white eyelet. The moon was growing day by day, just like the damnable desire to shape-shift. No, not desire. Compulsion.
Then, as if her psychic side finally gained some ground against the wolf, her second sight kicked in. The room and the need to shift dissolved into blackness, and the wolf in her vision appeared again like a lucid dream.
As big as it was, with massive shoulders, broad muzzle and forehead, and long legs, the wolf had to be a male, standing proud and tall, watching her from the edge of the spring-green forest. Cloaked in rich bluish-silver fur with a lighter mask, and with his ears perked like an alpha male's would be, he panted until he caught her gaze. His amber eyes focused on hers: the wolf wanted her. Beckoned her to come to him. But not as a human.
As a wolf.
Even in her visions, the scene was one of cajoling, begging her to recognize her destiny, to give in to her wolf's half. At least that's the way she viewed him.
Carol refused the wolf's alluring gaze and the moon's sensuous serenade.
But the moon commanded her! Aroused her to do its bidding through its seductive pull, yanking her abruptly from the vision.
The heat invading her body intensified now, like a fever that couldn't be squelched. Never had the shift overtaken a vision in progress. The urge was growing. Yet she knew she still had some influence over the shift, like those born as lupus garous had an inborn ability to prevent humans from catching them during the conversion. Like them, if she wanted to change, the shift happened in a flash. And since she hadn't just automatically shifted, she must have some control.
Still, her muscles twitched with need as she shrugged off the comforter and blankets. She lay in her silky gown on the soft mattress in the pack leader's chilly guest room, ready to yank off her garment before the transformation took over in case she couldn't stop it. She envisioned the horrifying image of getting hung up in her gown as a wolf. Trapped, snarling, and growling, she'd try to free herself until she woke someone in the household. He or she would find her struggling in a cocoon of silk—furry legs kicking and sharp, wicked canines snapping.
She gritted her teeth and pressed the palms of her hands flat against the soft mattress, battling the moon's domination. She would not give up control and shapeshift! Not when she couldn't rule her paranormal abilities. Not when she would now have to relinquish control over her physical form as well.
But more than that, she feared the shift would change her forever. Forever! Doomed to live life as a wolf with the conscience of a human. Even a single moment as a wolf could permanently seal her fate. At least that's what she thought a new vision was telling her, yet she couldn't know for certain. That's why fear consumed her to a greater degree every time the damnable shift threatened to overtake her.
Cursing her fate, she ground her teeth and clenched her hands into fists, her fingernails biting into the palms of her hands, and attempted to think of anything that would halt the raging need to shift.
She visualized Lelandi, the pack leader's mate, throwing a first-ever All Girls' Night Extravaganza the previous week exclusively for women in the pack—complete with werewolf-romance writer Julia Wildthorn's latest novel made into a feature film, Wolfly Desires, popcorn, margaritas, and lots of laughter. They were still finding popcorn underneath cushions and beneath the couch in little clusters. Carol smiled at the memory, hoping they could repeat an activity like that soon.
But then the heat rushed through her body again with a new wave of warning. Every muscle tightened, preparing for the fight. As if she'd called to the gods of psychic phenomena and they'd taken pity on her, her thoughts began to blur, and she knew her psychic sense was trying to take control again.
Holding her thoughts hostage, the dreamlike image showed an out-of-focus man, dressed in red and white stripes, who had knocked her down and was holding her there. Instantly, her blood cooled, the need to shape-shift withdrawing. A scrap of relief trickled through her. She focused, trying to see the mental picture more clearly, attempting to determine who had tackled her and why. Annoyance was the driving feeling she experienced from the encounter. Not fear. Loss of control, maybe. But the strongest emotion was definitely annoyance.
The vision grew mistier, the man's shadowy face becoming hazier and the red and white stripes blurring into pink until they faded completely from her mind. She was in control again—of her thoughts and her physical form. Taking a deep breath, she rubbed her arms, which were covered in chill bumps. Once more, she'd successfully stopped the change, and she felt some measure of triumph in overcoming the need to shift. She shivered. The compulsion grew stronger every month with each full moon. She could also shape-shift anytime a crescent moon appeared—waxing or waning. Only the royal werewolves, whose roots had not been diluted by strictly human genetics in their recent ancestry, could shapeshift during the phase of the new moon.
She feared that one of these times she wouldn't be able to conjure up a vision quickly enough or maybe not at all. The arrival of her visions was as unpredictable as the timing of the craving to shape-shift. But what if she did manage a vision and the shift superseded it again? Worrying about that wouldn't change a thing. She meant to dream up a fantasy world that would distract her so she could fall asleep again, because she desperately needed the sleep, but her thoughts drew back to the wolf in her vision earlier. He would come for her. Why? She didn't have a clue. But she knew she couldn't put off the inevitable.
If you love werewolves then this is one to check out!
I enjoyed this easy read from beginning to end. I can’t say exactly why it caught my attention but it did. Maybe it is the combination of the smooth flow of the story and the nice strong, alpha characters with their conflicts to be reckoned with. There was a good steady pace with no slow areas.
Carol, who is a strong and dedicated nurse/helper, is struggling with having been recently turned into a red werewolf. That is not her only problem. She has been psychic since she was seven and has had to cope with those who consider her crazy, a freak or a fraud. Her visions are showing her danger for the werewolves as they get stuck as wolves and cannot turn back. So she is fighting extra hard not to shift. Meanwhile the pack leader is concerned she will not have control and he thinks maybe he needs to find her a mate to help her transition.
Ryan is a PI gray werewolf from another pack who solved a murder case five months earlier with the help of Carol’s descriptions. He doesn’t believe in psychics, especially after having a bad experience with a fraud. He is convinced that Carol overheard clues and that she couldn’t have seen the details in a vision. He is intent on questioning her further so he can put the case behind him. Or maybe he really just wants to see more of her and has accepted that fact yet.
Ryan shows up in Silver Town a few steps ahead of some red wolves who try to kidnap Carol. Now he is determined to be her protector even if he has to confront the local pack leader, and his two single twin brothers, to get the position.
There is plenty of action throughout the story: some fun times of play, some tense dangers and some very sexy chemistry. The sensuality and sexual encounters are handled well. There is lots of steam but no crudeness. The author gives consistent attention to werewolf detail. I think this author has a knack for smooth writing that easily engages your attention and keeps you involved through to the end. This is the second book I have read in this series and I really did enjoy it.
This is only the second book in this series that I have read. It goes against very instinct that I have to jump into the middle/end of a series but I did it. I do have to say that with this series I did not mind so much. Each book and each couple is so different from that last that its easy to pretend that its not a part of a series.
I liked both Carol and Ryan. They had this great push and pull relationship. Carol was harangued by her pack leader into finding a mate and Ryan was a pack leader who does not want to mate with Carol because she is not comfortable with her wolf nature. It works perfectly and creates just the right amount of tension to make it interesting.
This is my second favorite shapeshifter series (second only to Lydia Dares series). The writing is good, the action is compelling and the romance is, of course, amazing. I really loved the action in this one. Perhaps even more so than the romance. I loved the whole virus plot. It was interesting without being contrived.
I definitely have to catch up with this series because I have loved both books I have picked up. Maybe as my belated Christmas gift to myself.
Wolf Fever, the sixth book in Terry Spears Werewolf Series, did nothing but exceed my already high expectations.
Carol Woods is a nurse, who was inadvertently bit by a werewolf and turned into a lupus garou. Not only does she NOT want to be a lupus garou, but she fights the urge to shift by distracting herself with visions of the future she has had since a child. Her visions generally foretell a nearing disaster, so when she sees other lupus garou unable to shift from their wolf form, she knows something terrible is coming. And as if that isnt enough to be dealing with, her pack leader is putting on the pressure by telling Carol that she needs to find a mate... and soon!
Ryan McKinley has come to the area to ask Carol a few questions about her "visions" after having solved a case he was working on with her help. Carol feels an attraction to Ryan, BUT he is the alpha leader of another pack. While he is there, Ryan becomes involved in Carols pack when a red wolf is found in the area and it is believed one or more rogue red wolves may be trying to take Carol or Lelandi, the pack leaders mate. Ryan becomes Carols bodyguard and begins to question his doubt in the validity of her visions as they become reality and some pack members are unable to shift back to their human forms.
The story becomes a race against time to solve the question of who is coming after Carol, what they want, and how to stop the "Wolf Fever" that is all too real.
Im always so amazed at how well she writes her characters and the depth she gives them. This book took the normal "pack" dynamics Ms. Spear writes so well and added more to it by adding to the complexity and involving many very strong characters. Not only were there many things going on within the story, all of which were well-written making it easy to follow, but even the bad guys were written in a way as to make the reader question how bad they really were. And finding a possible mate for Carol - Wow - she had many possibilities, and there were three that I was really torn between... I loved being kept on edge by so many aspects of the story!
The book touches on characters from previous books, but reads great as a stand-alone. If youve already read other books from the series, youll want to get this one, and if you havent... well, give this one a shot! Ill bet youll be running out to find the other books in the series! And even better? The series is slated for at least four more books, two coming in 2011, and two following those.
The story kicks off with newly turned werewolf, Carol Woods, fighting the change from human to wolf. She was turned via an attack five months prior and she still hasn’t accepted her new life. She’s in the custody of Darien Silver, pack leader and Carol’s protector. She is a guest, with restrictions, until she finds a mate to help her adjust to her new life.
In addition to fighting her inner wolf, Carol is also psychic and she’s foreseen some serious trouble for her new pack. Several members of her pack will not be able to shift from wolf back to human, but no one believes her. And really, she just wants one man to believe in her - (Chester) Ryan McKinley, an alpha leader from a neighboring pack. Meanwhile, Ryan will do what it takes to learn the truth about Carol, and why he can’t stop obsessing over her.
This is the sixth book in Ms. Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series, and my first look at this wonderful world. Although I did not read any of the previous books, I found the story easy to jump into - never feeling lost or that I had missed out from skipping the earlier books. Although I may have gotten a deeper understanding of the pack life and rules from the previous books, Ms. Spear did a great job bringing me up to speed and I was able to enjoy.
Carol is a delightful heroine. She is a strong woman placed in a difficult situation. She is terrified of what may come to pass, but she also embraces her new life in her own way and at her own speed. She interacts well with all of the pack, even polite to those I wouldn’t have been. She understands pack politics and hierarchy, but challenges the alpha as a sister would.
Ryan is an alpha through and through, but he gives Carol space and time. Of course, this is partly because he isn’t sure if he is the right male for Carol, so he tries to keep their relationship professional. Thank God Carol makes the first move! Together they make a sweet pair, and I adored watching Ryan and Carol each overcome their personal obstacles to finally come together.
The overall story had some exciting twists and turns. Someone/wolf is after Carol - why? Will Carol’s promotions come to pass? Can Carol and Ryan put the pieces of the puzzle together in time to save the pack? There were some exciting moments, but all-in-all a fairly mild story - no cliff hangers or jagged edges. The romance was also sweet, and the sex somewhat hot, but definitely on the mild side compared to other romances I have read.
Wolf Fever is an entertaining shifter story and you do not need to read the prior books in the series in order to enjoy this one.
Terry Spear has been on my ‘to-read’ list for a while, and I’m not ashamed to admit the half-naked men accompanied by a wolf on the covers swayed it for me. Even though it was slightly superficial to want to read a book based on the abs of a faceless man, I was quickly invested in the story and it’s the writing and the characters that kept me interested.
Carol, a newly turned Werewolf also has the unwanted ability of premonitions. Her recent visions show Werewolves being unable to transform back into their human form from a virus and fearing this, she’s been fighting the change for five months. Being a newly turned wolf and a rare female wolf at that, the Pack leader pushes Carol to find a mate to help guide her and protect her. Enter Chaz/Chester (he likes to be called Ryan) who is the Alpha of the neighbouring Pack, and a PI who has been sniffing around intrigued with Carol since meeting her just before she was bitten, and cannot get her off his mind. After an attempted kidnapping, it’s agreed that Ryan will become a bodyguard for Carol. There is a mutual attraction, but Ryan could never be with a woman who is not interested in embracing her inner Wolf and he also doesn’t trust her visions. On the other side, Carol doesn’t want to be with someone who doesn’t believe in her. But when a virus breaks out amongst the wolves, the pack turn to Carol for an answer and with Ryan they must search for a cure, all the time becoming closer and denying their attraction to one another.
This is the sixth book in the Heart of the Wolf series, but my first. Even though sometimes it might feel like you should know some of the characters already, it doesn’t hinder the enjoyment of the book at all. We go on the journey with Carol and we learn with her about the Wolf culture.
Carol is a fantastic heroine, I liked her immediately. She is a strong courageous female, she stands with her head held high and doesn’t apologise for who she is. With Ryan also being a stubborn Alpha it makes for some really great dialogue and chemistry between them, and I liked that her Alpha-ness was something Ryan truly admired in her. I really enjoyed them both having to overcome a hurdle within themselves, Carol needs to trust her inner wolf and Ryan needs to believe in Carol’s abilities.
Ryan may not be the usual Alpha male, but that made him far more interesting than the overly brooding/aggressive type. I loved the fact that when pack members have sex they are mated to each other for life, and this introduces a tangible sexual tension which really came alive on the pages. Ooh!
The Pack is like a huge welcoming family, and it gave me some warm fuzzies reading about them. They may not be perfect, but the love they have for each other is very clear and it made me smile more than once. While some characters are not the focus of the story, I definitely wanted to know more about them because of how well fleshed out they are.
There is so much happening in this book, but the author doesn’t confuse us. Instead her writing is clear and flowing and we are able to follow the plot without feeling like we are missing details. The storyline is very involving and I was anxious to reach the conclusion. I did however feel like it took a long time for the wolf virus, which we knew was coming, to occur and the cause is never really explained. But aside from that, Wolf Fever is a well written PNR. I was hooked immediately, I know I’ll be following this series from now on and plan to start from the beginning. This is one instance where I was happy to judge a book by its cover!
VERDICT:
This is an engaging paranormal romance with really solid characters. The suspense may be slightly slow in coming, but the lead up to it is enjoyable and the story is soon full of action. The romance is full of wonderful tension, and I was rooting for our heroes to get a HEA every step of the way. A great book to read on these winter nights.
With every book Terry writes I love the werewolf series more and more. Terry doesnt disappoint her fans with Wolf Fever .
Ryan was a wonderful, sexy hero. I thought it was interesting that Ryan was a werewolf, but didnt believe in psychics. Seemed to me you should believe in anything after that. However it made a very interesting plot twist. I loved watching his feelings grow for Carol and seeing him start to believe in her abilities.
Carol Woods wanted more than anything to be a nurse at the hospital in Silver Town, Colorado where her family lives, but she never foresaw how she’d end up with the job. Now she’s a red werewolf facing a mating, trying to forestall shifting for a variety of reasonsone of which has to do with a swine flu virus that seems to be attacking the werewolf kind in a bad way, while working with a private investigator who doesn’t believe in her psychic abilities one bit. So why does she thinks she’s falling in love with the infuriating gray?
Chester "Ryan" McKinley can’t get his mind off the entrancing woman, a nurse, a newly turned red lupus garou belonging to another gray pack and the only one left who might be able to learn how to stop the swine flu virus from making a permanent impact on their kind. Although he doesn’t want to draw Carol into this dangerous situation or believe she is involved, he has no other choice. But does the woman really have psychic abilities that are keeping her from shifting, or is she a fraud, a master at deception, and is behind the infections of their people? And how can he keep his hands off the intriguing woman, and his mind on the mission as the virus takes its toll?
Ryan was a wonderful, sexy hero. I thought it was interesting that Ryan was a werewolf, but didnt believe in psychics. Seemed to me you should believe in anything after that. However it made a very interesting plot twist. I loved watching his feelings grow for Carol and seeing him start to believe in her abilities.
I enjoyed Carol and her psychic abilities. I especially enjoyed that she had a mind of her own and really used it. Having psychic abilities could make life harder for you, like it did for Carol. Because of her visions she was scared to shift to her wolf form, after getting visions of humans not being able to shift back. That was something that I havent seen done before and enjoyed.
One of the best things about the books Terry writes is she always give you want you crave. She gives the readers strong, stubborn heroines and alpha heroes, along with a wonderful fast-paced story. Wolf Fever is by far my favorite one to date. It is everything a reader could want, plus a little humor and some sizzling sexual tension.
Overall Wolf Fever was additive and hard to put down. The storyline had me turning the pages late into the night. Wold Fever is the perfect gift for any paranormal romance fan this Christmas season.
Part of my fascination with this Terry Spears wolf series is that she gets the technical parts down so that the story is incredible believable. You understand the transformation and the need for a pack. She does a wonderful job uniting the human condition with the animal instincts. I have really enjoyed the series so far, but this one wasnt my absolute favorite. That usually falls to the first in the series since there is always something special about your first time.
Carol is a newly minted wolf in Silver City (yes, I can hear you groan) with psychic abilities when she meets alpha Ryan who doesnt believe in psychic ability but is attracted none the less. Lots of heavy petting ensues since if they mate, they are mated for life. There are lots of hot moments in the story and overall this will get you through a cold winter night. Overall, this is a fun read if you enjoy some feverish werewolf sex.
Carol is a newly changed red wolf who has psychic abilities. The alpha of the pack is pressuring her to find a mate within the pack because newly changed werewolves have trouble with their animal side and female werewolves are rare. She isnt interested in any of the men except for two brothers but they arent interested in her (or so she thinks). She finds herself attracted to gray alpha male Ryan but hes skeptical of her abilities. She realizes she cant have a relationship with anyone that doesnt believe in her and denies their attraction. She is haunted by dreams of werewolves not turning back to humans and uses this to not transform which makes her a danger to the pack and herself.
Ryan is hired to protect Carol when there is a kidnapping attempt and tries to convince her to accept her werewolf nature and transform. Ryan is a sexy alpha male.
The buildup of the romance between Carol and Ryan was very steamy!
4/5
Wolf River is a paranormal story about werewolves good and bad. Carol Woods is a nurse who was turned 6 months prior and is not quite ready to come to terms with her being a werewolf. She has not let herself change into a werewolf but knows that she will have to eventually. She is currently staying with her red wolf pack leader who wants her to pick a mate. There is no one that she is willing to mate with until she meets Ryan Mckinley again. All Ryan wants to do is talk to Carol about her visions, he is not to sure if he believes that she can see things that are going to happen and he wants to make sure he can trust her. As they spend more time together they find that they are deeply attracted to each other. In the meantime, the local packs are infected with a man made virus by some renegade gray werewolves who want Carol for their pack. The pack leader, Carol and Ryan race against time to find a cure for this virus and they need to make sure that the humans do not change while they are infected as they may not be able to change back to human form. The supporting characters rounds out the plot nicely.
This was the first book I have read in Terry Spears Wolf series. I enjoyed reading this story. If you like a paranormal story, then this one is worth your time.
Review: I really wasnt into reading werewolf novels until I started the Kelley Armstrongs Women of the Otherworld series and loved it (even though to date Ive only read the first 2). Anyway, thats the reason I accepted this book. It makes no difference if youve not read the six books in the series, there are references made but nothing that makes you feel like you cant keep up.
This is a great fantasy romance story with very interesting lead characters. Carol was bitten by a lupus garous and whilst she knows shes a werewolf she desperately fights the urge to change. Ryan is the leader of the gray werewolves and is drawn to Carol. These werewolves are drawn to their mate even though they may not know this immediately and they mate for life. I loved Ryan, he is a hot gorgeous alpha male that I really enjoyed reading his story.
This book has all the right ingredients for a great fantasy romance novel and if you like werewolves then youll love this story. Im looking forward to reading the other books in this series. Check out more about this series at Terry Spears website. Terry also writes Medieval Scottish romances so Im definitely going to get myself one of those next!
Carol Woods has been adopted by the gray pack who found and rescued her after her attack by a rogue red wolf. But its been six months and she hasnt yet shifted into her wolf form. They dont understand her reticence to shift and, since female werewolves are at a premium, believe that if she takes a mate, shell finally learn to shift. The main problem is the only male in the pack she finds remotely attractive has no interest in her. The other problem is that her psychic ability sets her apart from all her pack members. She needs any prospective mate to believe in her abilities and to fully accept them. Otherwise, no deal.
Ryan McKinley is a PI, mayor and pack leader of a gray pack in a nearby town. For six months, hes been obsessing about Carol and how she knew who had been behind the string of murders that hed been trying to solve. He doesnt believe in psychic ability mumbo jumbo but he also doesnt believe Carol is guilty of anything nefarious. As far as hes concerned, she had to have overheard or seen something that led to her uncanny knowledge. His curiosity stubbornly leads him to investigate her. Or so he tells himself.
Ryans reappearance after a six month absence intrigues Carol. Here is a man she finds attractive and who finds her attractive. The problem is that he doesnt believe in her abilities. Shes had too many people think her abilities are freakish...even her own mother sent her to a child psychiatrist to rid her of the abilities. It annoys and frustrates her when it becomes clear that Ryans only here to prove her abilities dont exist.
When shes nearly kidnapped by renegade red wolf shapeshifters, Ryan becomes her bodyguard, a task he takes seriously. With females being so rare, hes not surprised that other males would want her. Shes beautiful, intelligent, compassionate and resilient. But hes opposed to her being taken against her will by a bunch of incompetents. She deserves far better than that. She deserves a male who can protect her. As her bodyguard, he stays close to her. It doesnt take long for that physical proximity to work its magic and it becomes a battle to not consummate his lust for her...to do so will mate the two of them for life. But he knows she deserves a male who can accept her psychic abilities wholeheartedly and thats a struggle for him.
It gets worse when a mysterious illness occurs among members of her pack. NOrmally, when a shapeshifter gets ill, they shift into their wolf form and are good as new. However, this flu-like virus causes its victims to stay in their wolf forms, unable to shift back to their human forms. Carol and her pack are frantic to find the cure before its too late.
Wolf Fever is typical of Ms Spears wolf shapeshifter books - great plots, fascinating characters and wonderful love stories. Carol isnt a shy little virginal character. Shes fully mature, a strong woman who makes the best of the weirdities life throws at her. Ryan is Hot. Okay, hes more than just hot. Hes intelligent, strong and caring. More than that, he keeps an open mind even when hes convinced otherwise. His pursuit of Carol is...well, different, in a kind of non-pursuit sort of way. His mind is focused on the story problems but his heart knows whats important. When he finally accepts Carols psychic abilities, its with everything he has. This is a love story where you know the hero and heroine will live happily ever after.
I might just have been in the mood for a great wolf shapeshifter story but this book seemed to grab my attention right from the get-go. I finished it in less than three days. And Im ready to read it again which, for me, is the sign of a Really. Good. Story. If you need a Christmas present for someone, or for yourself, I recommend Wolf Fever.
I will never get enough of Terry Spear’s werewolf series. As long as she keeps giving me alpha heroes with strong and stubborn heroines who stand up to them and an interesting and fast-paced storyline, you can bet I’ll keep reading.
The storyline in Wolf Fever is actually the best of the series so far. Not only is there mystery and danger for Silver Town’s wolves, we get a little bit of humor in this book, along with, of course, some steamy sexual tension.
I like the fact that our hero, Ryan, has come back to Silver Town to, in his words, close his investigation by re-interviewing our heroine, Carol, about her psychic abilities that helped resolve past events in town, all because he doesn’t believe in psychics. I had to laugh out loud at this. The man is a werewolf, the stuff of legends. And he doesn’t believe in the paranormal. Carol gets a little sarcastic about that herself when talking to him about the issue. I also like that when Carol screws up, gets herself or someone else in trouble going against Ryan’s demands, most of which are for her safety, she learns from it. She doesn’t do it again. She may have to push the boundaries here and there, but she doesn’t push it to stupid just because she doesn’t like being told what to do. She has a mind of her own and she uses it. Ryan just wants her safe and she knows it and appreciates it. And that makes him even more attractive to her.
Carol is a newly turned wolf and is afraid to shift into her animal form. With her psychic gift, she’s been getting visions of members of the pack not being able to shift back into human form after shifting into wolves. Her fear and visions are justified, because the reader is privy to the danger being levied against the Silver Town wolves as it happens. Little by little as her visions come to pass, Ryan begins to believe in her more and more. Ryan has tried to fight the attraction to Carol over the past five months since he last saw her, but nothing he does gets her off his mind. That he has to watch Silver Town males compete to be her mate doesn’t help matters either. The sexual tension between Ryan and Carol begins early and smolders for a good bit, each scene more sensual and sizzling than the last. When Ryan finally does take her as his mate, they become attuned to one another so much they complement the other in everything they do.
Though the danger to the pack is serious and affects only a few of the wolves before it’s resolved, the perpetrators behind the danger are quite inept and don’t get away with their plan too much intact. They aren’t evil-doers, but just folks too desperate to make a new start and taking the easy way out, instead of working for what they want.
Another very nice addition to Ms. Spear’s series. She keeps it interesting in storyline, hot and steamy in romance, and charming and endearing while alpha and beguiling in character. And all of that makes me very happy as a reader.
SandyMGrade: A
Carol Woods came to Silvertown to work as a nurse in the local hospital. She keeps getting turned down for a job, because unknown to her at that time Silvertown is a town ran by werewolfs. Carol knows something is different about the town and its people. Carol is special, she is psychic and during a vision she saw some of the townspeople change into wolfs. During a battle Carol is bitten by a red wolf and turned. The pack leader takes Carol into his home until she learns to control the change and picks a mate. Carols psychic ability allows her to control the change. Ryan McKinley is the pack leader for the Gray wolf pack in Green Valley. Ryan is a P.I. and met Carol five months ago. He was investigating a murder case that involved someone from the Silvertown pack. With Carols help he was able to solve the case. But he does not believe that Carol is psychic. Ryan finds himself drawn to Carol but he cant figure out why. All he knows is that he needs to be near her. Carol refuses to shift to her wolf form. She has been having visions of people changing to their wolf form and being unable to change back. She is finding it hard to convince the pack leader in what she sees in her visions.
This is the sixth installment in Ms. Spears werewolf series. Their story is a terrific suspense and there is enough action to keep a reader fascinated and interested. You will find yourself rooting for Carol and Ryan to get their happy ending. Ms. Spear brings back charters from the earlier stories; it is just like coming home again and seeing old friends. Be on the lookout for Ms. Spears next installment of her werewolf series out in June 2011 called Heart of the Highland Wolf.
As always, Terry Spear delivered a totally hot, snappy story that kept me from page one. But that really doesnt surprise me :) Thrilling and action packed, this book was filled with characters that just come alive and descriptions that brought the locations and events into living color for me.
I loved following the heroine, Carol, through the story...and Ryan? What can I say other than YUMM!!!!! This one rocked like no ones business and I couldnt get enough :)
Nurse Carol Wood thought she had enough on her hands trying to cope with her psychic ability. Little did she know things were about to get a lot crazier.
In a twist of fate, Carol is bitten by a lupus garous. Now she must also come to terms with the fact that she’s a werewolf.
Because of her premonitions, Carol fights the urge to transform into a werewolf. In her visions she’s seen where the werewolves aren’t able to shift back to their human form.
Darien Silver, pack leader of the red werewolves in Silver City, is getting fed up with Carol’s refusal to accept her new werewolf condition. He doesn’t know about her premonitions. He’s decided Carol needs a mate to keep her in line and werewolves mate for life.
Meanwhile, P.I. Ryan McKinley comes snooping around because he can’t get Carol out of his thoughts. Ryan attributes it to Carol helping him with a case using her psychic ability, which he finds hard to believe. This is ironic since Ryan is the pack leader of the gray werewolves in Green Valley.
A kidnapping attempt is made for Carol. Darien suspects it was by relatives of the man who turned Carol and was then killed. Since Ryan is already around, Darien agrees for him to be her body guard. That’s when things really begin to heat up. To add to the mix, the group soon learns there really is a virus affecting the werewolves.
While trying to find a cure, Carol and Ryan fight their attraction to one another. They are strong individuals, but find that they are unstoppable as a team.
This is the sixth installment in the Heart of the Wolf series. Though references are made to prior events and people, this is a stand alone book. While the main characters will fascinate you, the secondary characters all have their own blend of charm as well.
Author Terry Spear has demonstrated once again that she can have you believing in the unbelievable. Her characters draw you in and the fast pace action keeps you enthralled until the end. Along the way she sprinkles in just enough humor with the suspense, while taking your breath away with the romance.
WOLF FEVER is the perfect prescription for warming those cold reading nights (and days). If you’re not a fan of werewolves, you will be by the end. Author Terry Spear creates werewolves that will captivate you with their honesty, love of family, loyalty, fun nature, and charming ways.
Wolf Fever, book six in the Heart of the Wolf series, by Terry Spear is an excellent addition to this wonderful paranormal series. Spears ability to write, using her experience with real-wolf behavior is what really sets this series apart from the rest. The author has an uncanny sense of pack dynamics and pack behavior and it gives a real authenticity to her work.
Nurse, Carol Woods is a newly turned red werewolf, who refuses to allow the shift to take place. Her psychic abilities have given her a sense that if she shifts she may never be able to shift back. But shes unsure what it all means. Ryan McKinley, private investigator comes back to Silver Town in order to tie up some loose ends from a previous case, like finding out if Carol Woods is really psychic or just very observant. His inability to trust Carols abilities may be his undoing, as he begins to feel more than just concern for Carol. Stray red wolves are out to get her and he is charged to protect her. A form of the flu is causing pack members to be unable to shift back to human form and its up to Carol and Ryan to learn to trust each other if they are going to be able to find a cure in time.
The Heart of the Wolf series is definitely one of my favorite paranormal series out there. Terry Spear gives readers the right amount of mystery and suspense, the right amount of sizzling romance and a great story all wrapped up in one, with Wolf Fever. Main characters Carol and Ryan heat up the pages as their relationship strengthens.
Carol is a very determined young woman, even though she is a newly turned werewolf she fights the shift like no other. She is also determined to help her new pack no matter the cost. Ryan is simply a big bad wolf when he needs to be. Hes protective and he is very alpha. He likes to take charge and get things done. The two of them together is quite a combination. Spear gives the reader a real sense of connection between these two. Even though Ryan is at first skeptical of Carols abilities, he begins to understand that she is no ordinary woman, and no ordinary werewolf. I thought the characters were well developed and the supporting cast was well fleshed out as well.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it and the entire series to those who have yet to try the paranormal genre and to those who already love it. The writing style is easy to follow and the length is satisfying. Its a book that will grab your interest and hold it.
Terry Spear has quickly become one of my favorite werewolf writers; she has created a unique world of lupus garous where mystery and danger surround Carol and Ryan, and the sexual tension throughout the book definitely has you craving a hero like Ryan. Terry is incredibly descriptive when it comes to her wolves and makes you feel like you are a werewolf and the wind is ruffling through your own fur. Carol didn’t choose to become a werewolf, an attack by her new packs enemy turned her, and she is trying to deal with the new changes in her life. But Carol is also blessed, or cursed, with visionsthe ability to see into the futureand what she sees scares her into fighting her first shift. Five months have passed since the attack and she is still fighting the shift. Living with werewolves is much different then Carol is used to, and soon she must take a mate, only most of the bachelors in the pack are beta wolves and Carol is definitely an alpha, she is strong and independent and she needs a mate that can match her in every way. Ryan doesn’t believe in Carol’s psychic abilities, so he returns to Silver Town to find the truth, only for the past five months, since he last saw her, he hasn’t been able to get Carol out of his head. As Carol learns to accept the wolf within her, Ryan must learn to trust Carol if he hopes to gain her as his mate. There are some red wolves after Carol and something strange is happening to the members of the pack, they are getting sick, and shifting into their wolf coats is not the solution they were hoping it would be, they face a different kind of danger and its up to Carol to find a cure
What more can I say about this author and her books? I love this series so much! With each book, the author brings new life to a commonly used theme of werewolves.
Carol is a newly changed werewolf who just happens to have psychic abilities. She used this ability to fight off the change of becoming a wolf. Carol hires Ryan to be her bodyguard since she was almost kidnapped. This sets up the scenes of future romance that sizzles!
I loved Ryan! I desperately wanted Ryan and Carol to have a happily ever after. I found Ryan to be a great Alpha with sex appeal to boot! While Carol tries to convince Ryan of her gift, he tries to convince her to accept her wolf form and begin the change. When Carols fears of not being able to change back to her human form start to prove true throughout the pack, everyone counted on Carol to help them. This helped to include Carol as the Alpha heroine. I loved the suspense and the plot, even if I did feel that the suspenseful part of the story was slow in coming.
Another book in the series that needs to be on your list to buy next! If you havent started the series yet, you are truly missing out on a wonderful bunch of wolves and writing!
Thoughts: Carol Woods is a newly changed wolf with psychic abilities. Ryan McKinley an Alpha from another pack... finds Carol intriguing and is very much attracted to her. He doesnt really believe that she has learned about the lupus garou through a vision and hes out to prove it no matter how tantalizing he finds her.
Wolf Fever is action-packed and sizzling hot. Its no surprise that I loved this book. Terry Spear writes great alpha males. They are really hard to resist, and they keep you turning to the page for more. An excellent story - Spears wolves always find some kind of danger this time it was a virus. It made for an original and enthralling read.
Score: 4 Stars
A would-not-could-not stop…read! Full of nail-biting suspense, sexy scenes, and plenty of hot alphas to get you through the coldest of winters.
Summary: Carol was bitten during a fight between the reds and the gray lupus garous. Since that fateful day, she’s having trouble coinciding her halves. The human half, a nurse with precognitive powers, and her werewolf half, as a newly turned red. Darien Silver’s grays have been kind, patient, and protective of Carol Wood (heroine). But, as the saying goes, you can lead a wolf into the forest, but you can’t make it howl. She’ll accept their ways, when she’s ready. And not a minute sooner! In the interim, she refuses to shift.
When Ms. Wood realizes she’s in danger in more ways than one, she hires a bodyguard. She’s not only endangering her human patients by refusing to shift, but someone’s determined to kidnap her. Chester Ryan McKinley, hero, is a gray alpha and an uber sexy P.I. She’ll need Ryan 24/7. Oh, he’s qualified all right. He can protect her as a man, or as an alpha wolf. But, who’ll protect her from his “growing” desires? Perhaps, no protection is needed. There’s a bioengineered virus spreading among the packs. When Carol develops a low grade fever, is it too late for loving Ryan?
Review: As a reader who’s been following Spear’s werewolf series, I’m declaring Wolf Fever the best novel…thus far. I held my breath quite a bit with book six. When Carol’s grasping at straws searching for a cure, I felt the desperation. When she’s kidnapped, I felt the horror. Terry Spear knows exactly how to extract emotions from her readers, draw them into the story, and how to keep them riveted until the last word’s printed on the last page. Suffice to say, I’ve added it to my re-read list.
Favorite Scenes: Coincidentally, my favorite scenes involve windows. The first scene is when Carol peers into the forest, and spots a wolf watching her. Time stood still when I read it. Then, there’s the scene where Ms. Wood is in a sunroom, its dark out, she looks out the window and gazes at the moon. Then she loses her tightly reigned in control. Love it! Oh, it bears repeating…love it!
Recommendations: I’m recommending Wolf Fever to anyone who enjoys reading romances. It was a delight to read; I’m sure you’ll agree.
Terry Spear continues her were-wolf romance series with Wolf Fever, a tale of alphas, mysteries and forced marriages, to put it mildly.
Terry Spear’s sixth book in her werewolf series is a December 2010 release from Sourcebooks Inc. and will have you addicted to the series if you are not all ready. Wolf Fever is the first book I have read by Terry Spear, so though I can’t compare it to her earlier works, I can definitely say I will be back tracking to read the previous books in her series. The novel is intriguing right from the beginning when readers meet a psychic newly turned were-wolf who finds herself caged and being stalked.
Paranormal Romance in Wolf Fever
Carol Woods desperately wanted to be a nurse in Silver Town, Colorado, she just didn’t plan on becoming a wolf to do so. Having been bitten by a red were-wolf, Carol finds herself guarded at all hours by her pack leader that is determined to keep his pack safe, even from her. When alpha leader Ryan Mckinley comes to town she is immediately interested, and considering she is being forced to take a mate, he comes at just the right time. That is, if he realizes in time that he wants her too. Carol faces a few main problems within the pages of this enticing novel:
1. She doesn’t want to shift and accept the wolf part of her - Thanks to her psychic abilities, Carol has a fear of not being able to change back to human once she shifts to a wolf. So, she uses her visions to postpone the shift more than any newly turned wolf should be able to, which causes fear and tension amidst the pack.
2. Carol won’t accept any mate who doesn’t accept her psychic abilities - This poses a huge problem when she falls for the a gray pack leader who is determined to prove her wrong. Ryan Mckinley doesn’t believe in paranormal mumbo jumbo, he is a straight thinking P.I. who deals in the hard facts that can be proved in a court of law. Convincing Ryan of her powers and getting him to trust them become one of her biggest challenges.
3. Carol soon finds herself one of the only people trying to cure a virus infecting her pack - With her psychic abilities Carol had tried to warn everyone, but now she has to try to save everyone. The love between Carol and Ryan hang suspended precariously in the balance of how they can solve this mysterious virus and bring the ones who caused it to justice.
Romantic Fiction Novel Wolf Fever
Terry Spear perfectly produced an urban fantasy paranormal romance novel that is simply fun to read. There aren’t a lot of deep moments that resonate with things going on in the world today, but the book does pose a perfect example of escapist literature where readers can get lost in a world that is not their own. The characters are relatable up to their wolfish qualities and the dialogue is something anyone might say, if they were a werewolf. Over all the book is simply fun and memorable and readers wont be disappointed when they try it out.
Carol Woods was turned into a wolf against her will now she fights every day to prevent the turn as she feels she will never change back. As she can see what will happen to the pack in the future she is bound to make sure to retain her humanity at all cost. What she did not plan for was the sexy gray from another pack making her feel things she does not want to feel.
Ryan McKinley knew the first time he ever saw Carol that there was more to their relationship then he wanted to admit for one thing he did not believe she could see the future and he is going to do all he can to prove her to be the fraud he knows her to be.
When a virus breaks out affecting the pack Carol and Ryan race against time and their growing lust to find a cure before it is too late. It soon becomes apparent to Ryan that Carol is not the fraud he believed her to be but unless she accepts the fact that she is now a wolf and everything it entails he is afraid they can never truly be together. Will Carol give in to the moon and accept who and what she is or lose Ryan forever.
Book six in her Werewolf Series Terry Spear delivers another smash hit again. Ryan had been burned before by someone saying they could see the future so determined to prove Carol a fraud he is afraid to admit the truth that he is wrong (typical man). Carol is strong and able to prevent the change something no turned werewolf has been able to do she has no idea how unique she is. The chemistry between Carol and Ryan is sizzling this book is a must read and for those who have not had the pleasure of Ms. Spears wolves don’t worry they can be read as stand alones even though some secondary characters have their own stories not necessary to read them first
Carol Woods sees the future - and shes a werewolf. Shes not a natural born werewolf - she was attacked 5 months ago and turned. Since then, shes been fighting the change (successfully so far) and Darien, her pack leader, is concerned. Shes fighting the change because shes been having visions of some of the men in her pack shifting into wolves and not being able to shift back. In addition to trying to convince her to shift, Darien is also trying to convince her to take a mate, as females are a precious commodity and he doesnt want her attacked and/or stolen.
Ryan McKinley is a former cop, now a PI, who assisted Dariens pack a few months ago with a problem they were having. Since then he hasnt been able to get Carol off his mind - he doesnt believe her visions are real. So hes back on Dariens turf to figure out how Carol figured out the clues to his case.
When Carol is almost kidnapped, she hires Ryan to be her bodyguard. He agrees, and thats where things start to really heat up. The attraction is definitely there, but Carol cant be with someone who doesnt believe in her "talent", and Ryan needs a mate who can embrace her wolf. Then, Carols visions come true and the wolves cant shift back and the pack looks to her to find a cure.
My thoughts: I really enjoy reading Terry Spears wolves; she is very good at making the wolf come across in their human counterparts. I love her Alpha males, and even though she was a new wolf, Carol was such a stubborn Alpha female, it was fun to see the Beta males trying (unsuccessfully) to win her affections. The social hierarchy of the packs was also well-done; although not the hero of this story, Darien was a great Alpha leader who was willing to work with another Alpha to resolve his problems. The sickness plot was interesting - biological warfare within werewolf packs is a novel story line and it worked here, providing a dose of urgency to the story.
Im looking forward to the next book in this series - Heart of the Highland Wolf
I love werewolves and I love Terry Spear. Need I say more? Her books are always fun and never disappoint. The plot was intense and the virus had me on the edge of my seat. Carol and Ryans characters made the story even better. Four stars!
Wolf Fever is the latest in Terry Spears werewolf series. I really enjoy this series because the author has a down to earth writing style that makes her characters feel very real and believable. I found the heroine fiery and fun to read and the hero stubborn and sexy.
Carols history has been troubled. When she was a child she had a freak accident and now she sometimes sees glimpses of the future. Although she has been ostracized, humiliated and called crazy, she still feels she must try to help the people in her visions from danger. The latest incident to help someone resulted in her being bitten by a werewolf and now she is the newest member of the red werewolf pack. But because turned werewolves (instead of born werewolves) are supposed to have poor mastery of their animal side and because female werewolves are rare the alpha of the pack has been pressuring Carol to find a mate within his pack to guide and control her. But Carol finds she is not interested in the men of the red pack with the exception of the pack leaders brothers who dont seem to be interested in her! The rest of the men are pushovers and Carol finds she wants someone as strong as she is. She unexpectedly finds herself drawn to the gray werewolf alpha named Ryan. But Ryan is skeptical of her powers. And Carol realizes she cant have a relationship with a man who doesnt believe in her and even tries to deny their attraction! To complicate matters, Carol is haunted by visions of werewolves unable to transformation back to their human side. Because of this, she is afraid to shift into her wolf form which makes her more unstable. Can Carol finally accept her inner wolf? Can Ryan accept his growing feelings and trust her?
This story was very interesting because so much was occurring. But the authors clear writing made it easy to follow and fascinating to read. I found myself wanting to know about Carols visions and even wished that she had more of them. I really liked her psychic abilities since I feel it really enriched the story line. Plus Carol has become a stronger character due to her special abilities. They have scarred her and she has had to learn confidence in her powers and herself because unbelievers in the past have tried to make her feel like she was mad or strange.
I feel the courageous heroine made this book. I especially liked how she wants to be taken on her own terms. She wasnt going to change herself to suit other people or make their lives easier because they didnt want to believe her. She had plenty of: resilience, fortitude and moral integrity. It was a little frustrating that the hero took a while to realize what a good thing Carol was. He was a solid and sexy character but I really loved Carol!
This was an involving story that I simply had to finish. I love the world the author has created and cant wait to read more, especially about the red alphas brothers?!
CK2 Recommended Read!
Our heroine this time out is Carol Woods, a nurse who has been turned into a red lupus garou. She fights the restrictions of her situation, drawing on her psychic powers to forestall shifting as she struggles to maintain a somewhat normal human life. Her pack leader, however, insists that Carol must find a mate and come to terms with her wolf side. Now a virus is endangering members of her pack, and Carol must work alongside Chaz McKinley to try to save their pack.
Wolf Fever is the sixth werewolf novel by Terry Spear. Like her other novels in this series, it can be read as a totally standalone novel, but returning fans will enjoy the brief glimpses of the continuing lives of characters from her previous novels. It is the third novel in this series that I have read and each somehow seems better than the one before. I had been eagerly awaiting Wolf Fever and it did not disappoint! I wish I had more than 5 klovers to offer.
Carol and Chaz have fantastic chemistry, and the tension of the desire they are fighting alongside the deadly spreading disease in their midst adds page-turning excitement that just doesn’t stop. Spear’s trademark of using realistic wolf characteristics and behavior remains refreshingly delightful as does her introduction of secondary characters and subplots within the main storyline. Savor this one slowly because Spear’s next wolf series book, tentatively titled Heart of the Highland Wolf, is not due out until June 2011.
Nurse Carol Woods is sick of being penned up. She hated it before she was turned into a werewolf, when the gray pack was trying to keep her safe from the destiny she saw in her psychic images, and she hates it after being turned into a red werewolf. Now, she cant get an alpha male from another pack out of her head, she keeps seeing visions of a horrible werewolf disease she cant cure, and she refuses to be controlled by the ebb and flow of the moon, so she is denying her shift into a wolf.
Ryan McKinley just cant believe in psychic visions. He is only stalking Carol because he wants to know how she really found out the info that solved his last case. Thats it. It has nothing to do with how great she looks in a nightdress or her own inner strength, no matter what his sister says and the number of pictures of Carol he has in his case file. If Carol cant accept her newly-turned self, the gray pack cant let Ryan do what he needs to in order to protect Carol on their territory, and he cant come to terms with her psychic abilities, they are all going to remain at a dangerous standstill that may risk the lives of at least three packs.
A riveting and entertaining novel, WOLF FEVER is a lot of fun and makes one want to devour all of the rest of Terry Spears books.
Who ever heard of biological warfare against werewolves actually succeeding? This is another great story from the mind of Ms. Spear sure to amaze and intrigue readers of her wonderful series; and even garner new fans.
Carol Wood isn’t a pushover. The story revolves around a young woman who had dreams and goals and finds herself now a werewolf. She doesn’t want to give anything up but being a werewolf has certainly derailed the plans she made for her life. It’s all about compromise, yet Carol won’t budge an inch. She has this ability that confounds her alpha and pack and sometimes makes her the odd one out. This talent of which she tried to exercise great control over comes at a cost and it plays into the plot quite effectively. She also has some inner pain that gets dealt with.
And isn’t it romantic that Ryan wants to help? Not that his help is wanted initially. That made for some interesting reading. I liked Carol’s character. When things get nasty, her strengths shine – she’s smart, has a clever brain process, is dedicated and goes after what she wants. She’s feminine enough to feel insecure at times when confronted with what she sees are perfect werewolf females, until Ryan has her believing what he sees in her. I found that quite romantic. She’s also woman enough to fight for her man, even when he tells her to ‘stay put’. I really liked that about her.
Ryan is the hero. On top of that, he’s a yummy Scotsman as well as an alpha. I like that he did his own thing and is his own man but still respected the local alpha. Although he’s visiting and states that he’s tying up a loose end, he’s determined to keep Carol safe and he’s not quite sure why. I really enjoyed his slow fall into love. He actually got hit with Cupid’s arrow early on but he didn’t recognize the fact and that made me smile. He’s such a guy. He’s also a great protector and he’s tenacious, all good traits.
A lot of the secondary characters are familiar to readers of previous books but for first time readers, if they jump into the series with this story, they’ll feel like they’re getting a complete picture. It stands alone just fine because this story is carried by Carol and Ryan. The intrigue started in a previous book but this one blows it right open so instead of being teased, a reader gets the whole enchilada. There is terrific suspense, action and even comedic moments to keep a reader fascinated and interested. When Carol and Ryan get together and they explore the physical aspect of their budding relationship, it’s sensual, passionate and very well written. There are some bittersweet moments among the secondary characters as well. Everyone had a job in this story for good or ill, and they’re all very well fleshed out and I believe accomplished whatever the author needed them to do. Another reason I enjoyed this book is that it gave me a sense of community which provided more shocking power to the maniacal plot.
Wolf Fever is another winner of a story that kept me on the edge with its unique master storytelling and plot. There are villains of different flavors and degrees that prevented me from guessing which way Ms. Spear was going to go. I enjoyed the brisk dialogue and the insights it gave me as I read. I liked Carol and Ryan as a couple and Ryan’s sister is a hot ticket. The quality of writing is as strong as ever and a must read for paranormal wolf fans who enjoy a romance laced with humor along with great suspense. It sure made it a hard to put down book. For me, I didn’t want to stop reading, even when it was time to go to bed. Who wants sleep when they’re in the middle of reading a story by Ms. Spear? Her writing is pure entertainment.
Rating: 4 Cups
Carol Woods is still trying to get used to the thought of being a werewolf. For the past few months, she has been fighting off the change, something that no bitten human should be able to do.
There is something about Carol that calls to the beast inside Ryan McKinley. Though he is the pack leader for the Gray pack and does not have any part of the Red pack that she belongs to, he is willing to overstep boundaries to be near her.
When visions of her pack mates being unable to shift back to human form begin to hit Carols mind, she tries to warn them, to no avail. Ryan does not believe in Carols psychic ability either, thanks in part to a charlatan who played upon him before. Without warning, a super virus hits hard and at the same time another pack of wolves tries to kidnap Carol. Ryan will have to get over his past, and Carol must embrace her inner beast if they are to win against the werewolves responsible for possibly ruining the Red pack forever.
Wolf Fever is a great read, thanks in part to giving the reader a glimpse into the inner workings of what a werewolf community would be like. Ms. Spear uses great character development, hot passion, facets of many different controversies, and a mysterious twist to keep her readers entertained. I thought the way Carol was able to sustain from shifting into her wolf added to the plotline. With Ryans struggle to try to understand and believe in Carols psychic abilities, you can really see the obstacles between them come alive. Add in the fact that he is an alpha male from another pack coming to call on the Red packs newest member, and you have one very interesting book.
