Greg lives in northern New Jersey with his wife, Jane, and their dog, Tacoma. He grew up in a family of five and spent much of his early years playing in the barn behind the house which was his dad and uncle’s art studio. They were known as the Brothers Hildebrandt in the fantasy art world, and Greg’s first memorable influence was witnessing the creation of the original 1977 Star Wars poster. It was also at this time he was lucky enough to be the model for the hobbits in his dad and uncle’s J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings calendars. It was from this point forward that he was hooked on fantasy, creativity, and fun! After college, Greg went on to work in the film and TV industry, while also penning several screenplays, books, and comics.

On an ominous night in Northrack, the Rat Emperor’s son is born a runt. Not wishing to condemn the boy to as short life by presenting him as his heir, the Emperor sends him to be raised by a family of mice in the peaceful valley of Windelwood. There, Crycket knows nothing of his blood brother Sylan’s imperial ties; their world extends no further than the edges of their grandparent’s farm.
But the wider world can never be kept at bay. Evil is stirring, and a barbarous nation has begun its march to war. As the Rat Empire falls further into darkness and decay, a vicious serpent is spotted in the lands. With turmoil creeping into their own backyard, Crycket and Sylan suddenly find themselves on a mission to thwart an invasion by the evil Rat Empire. But they soon uncover an even more wicked evil that will force them to try and rally the Mice and Rats together in order to repel an encroaching darkness.
How long have you been at work on this book?
2+ years (part-time)
How did the idea originate?
The original concept started with the toys. We have one of Crycket and one of Otak. Out of those two, a story was created.
The book came about when I was introduced by Book One's artist, Alex, to Dean Robinson and Jason Enos, the creator/owners of the original concept - after 1 dinner, they asked if I would like to pen a story. A very bare-bones idea existed and Dean and Jason gave me cart blanche to further explore and create the world that we have today in the Realm of the Rodent.
Did the book entail any unusual writing habits or places?
It was more just making the time to write while working full time and having an active home life. So, I have trained myself over time to be able and write just about anywhere. I am a firm believer that a writer must have the writing done in their head before they sit down in front to the computer/pad - or it's just a waste of time.
