Alyssa Sheinmel
Bestselling author of several books for young adults, including A Danger to Herself and Others and What Kind of Girl
ABOUT ALYSSA SHEINMELAlyssa Sheinmel is the New York Times bestselling author of several novels for young adults, including What Kind of Girl, A Danger to Herself and Others, and Faceless. Alyssa grew up in Northern California and New York and currently lives and writes in New York. Alyssa’s books deal with sensitive topics including mental illness, teen dating violence, eating disorders, and questions of identity and friendship. Alyssa loves speaking with teens about why she writes about these issues, about her writing and research process, and about the books and experiences that inspire her to write for teens. Alyssa can also speak to her own history with bulimia and disordered eating, and why she continues to write about these topics today. She loves participating in book club-style discussions about her books. (As well as about other books!)
Before she became a full-time writer, Alyssa worked for nearly a decade in book publishing (at a prestigious literary agency, and at Random House Children’s Books), so she can offer insight to aspiring writers about the publishing industry. In addition to her own writing, Alyssa has worked as a co-author, ghost-writer, and book-doctor, and she can speak to the different ways to build a career as a writer.
