Reviews

Need an all-around fun book for a teenager or a newlywed? You will want to check Robert Dodenhoff’s, The Man Test out. This book is more than just a novelty type book. At first when saying I’d review it, I thought it’d be a joke type book. It’s not. It is a serious book, packed full of really great information and every day etiquette. I would say it is the modern day man’s version of The Dangerous Book for Boys.

The Man Test is set up in categories and each category has mini quiz’s with the answers at the end of each quiz. Really, if you were to give this to a teenage boy or young adult and that boy/man were to seriously go through and take and score each quiz, making a mental note the answers to the ones he got wrong, this book would provide much needed and useful knowledge throughout that boy’s/man’s life. I mean who knew that it is proper etiquette, now, to wear other colors to a funeral than black? That is one of the questions that I failed while taking The Man Test. As it turns out, I’m not much of a man.

Don’t let the title fool you. This book is no joke; it should be called The Man’s Mini Encyclopedia. I have no hesitation recommending this book for anyone’s library. This is a great reference and all around fun book.

Hundreds of questions to test everything a real man should know!

Yes it’s a book and it’s also for women! Seriously I couldn’t pull my eyes off it because there are quite a few things I don’t know shhh, don’t tell my kids :) and this book is the perfect teaching tool!

It would have made a really good Father’s Day gift addition, but it will still be a gift for Mr man when he gets back. I feel he’ll find a thing or two in this book that he needs to be reminded of or brush up on.

The Man Test covers a wide variety of topics. A few of my faves are:

* Finance and Negotiation
* Transportation
* Urban and Outdoor Survival
* Home Maintenance
* Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle

Under those headings are sub headings that deals with specific topics. For instance;
Home Maintenance covers:

* Plumbing
* Electrical
* General
* Painting

The Answer Key sections are right after the questions and scenarios section which is so much easier than flipping all the way to the back of the book to get the answers! I like that.

The books give short and to the point answers, just like men like it. Women prefer details :) but short answer work great for us too!

When the boys are here, you can only IMAGINE the way this house runs...
Who knows more of what..
Who is stronger, smarter, faster...
You get the picture?

I was asked if I was interested in reviewing a book to test the knowledge of man.
LOL.
What do you think I said?!
Heck yes, I would love to check this out!
Granted, the oldest of the boys is 15, but still...
A little healthy trivial competition has never hurt anyone!

The book came and I was ready to dive in!
Ha, I wanted to know what "The Man Test" was about and I have to say, I learned several things!
Marc and Roman, the 15 year old, answered the questions as I read them out loud.
(Of course, I was guessing with them!)
The great thing is that the answers are a few pages back, so everyone can test their knowledge!

Now, I learned several things in here and it was fun to watch a wonderful Dad/Son moment in seeing who knew more...
But, there were a couple things that had me wondering the accuracy.
For example:
Under normal driving conditions, how often should you change your oil?
Their answer: c. 7,500 miles.

Now, I don’t know much about cars, but I think that this is off....

Other than that...
The questions were educational:
True/False: If an egg sinks in a bowl of water, it may be spoiled.
The answer:
False, if it FLOATS in a bowl of water, it may be spoiled.

I like this one:
True/False: Your belt color should match the color of your shoes.
TRUE!

Wish more guys would read this book!
From tips to laundry and everything else, this would be a great book to give a guy in your life!
(Not just for the fun, trivial point, just in general!)

How manly would you describe yourself? Sure you watch the football game on Sunday and enjoy a good beer with your buddies, but how well would you score in the etiquette category of manhood? What about home renting, career, negotiation, urban survival, boating, or nutrition categories? If anxiety is brewing, it might just be time for you to put down the beer and man up.

The Man Test by Robert Dodenhoff tests readers on all of the categories that make up manhood. While she may want to know, the book does not come with a requirement to disclose the results to the women in your life. Although the initial test score may seem discouraging, the following chapters provide resources in every arena that a man’s knowledge cover.

By the end, you may just find yourself informed, entertained, and slightly more prepared to strut your manliness. While the language clearly runs on the side of humor, the information focuses on important topics and lessons that come in handy no matter what your age. A wonderful resource for Dads, bachelors, husbands, brothers or any guy in between, this book tackles the broad definition of being a man.

This was a fun read! My husband and I enjoyed seeing how “manly” he is, and had a few laughs at the same time. The book is primarily made up of quiz questions and contains a TON of very useful information as well! This is a purely factual book and would make a great gift to any guy in your life!

A unique book, perfectly factual and fun for father and son bonding.

Just in time for Fathers Day!

THE MAN TEST is broken up into 9 chapters in an easy to read question answer format with tips thrown in throughout each chapter. With information including table manners, health, nutrition, lifestyle and even survival skills. It covers a wide range of specifics a man should know for his own safety and for living an easier life before venturing out on his own. Each chapter begins with an inspirational or comical quote on the top.

I found this book difficult to rate, and I will tell you why, this does not in any way take away from the book. When it comes to the information provided in the book it is very useful, straight forward and interesting. My difficulty in rating is due to the reason being, if you already know this information you will not feel the book is as interesting or as informative. I will stay away from that area and concentrate on the book being unique and others facts like, how this book is a great quick read for any little man pre-teen and older. I chose pre-teen and older only because it does contain a quiz on STD’s and birth control in the very back of the book. Fathers could use this book to share with those little men in their lives, something my husband did with our son. They had the greatest time going through the book and quizzing themselves while both my son and husband learned in the process. You might be surprised when even your husband does not know something from the book, yet your son does know. I found it very informative even in it’s quick, short question and answer format. Some things I learned were the best things to do when a Bear is attacking, vehicle related information plus much more, so us girls can read and learn from this book also. The only draw back I felt was the books format being to short, however this format is great for a father and younger son to share. It’s compact size does have other benefits as it is great for travel and even those camping trips. A great book for father and son bonding which also makes for a unique gift.

Is your husband or father a “real man”? See if he can answer these questions correctly:

1. (True/False) Your belt color should match the color of your shoes.
2. (True/False) It’s always best to puncture a blister rather than keeping it intact.
3. (True/False) A woman cannot get pregnant while she is having her menstrual period.

Answers:
1. True, unless your belt is made up of many colors — which is a style you probably should avoid!
2. False. Try not to break a blister unless it is too painful, interferes with walking or working with your hands. To protect blisters — or in case they puncture — cover them with adhesive bandages or gauze pads.
3. False. Be aware as well that sperm can live for up to five days in a woman’s body.

These are just a few of the many questions posed to men in The Man Test: Hundreds of Questions to Test Everything a Real Man Should Know, by Robert Dodenhoff. (Many of the questions are multiple choice, but I selected T/F examples for the sake of brevity.) As the author notes in the Introduction, this is “an essential and comprehensive guide containing the information every man should learn and master.” Topics include: Manners and Etiquette; Career and Employment; Home Renting and Buying; Finance and Negotiation; Transportation; Urban and Outdoor Survival; Domestic Skills; Home Maintenance; Health, Nutrition, and Lifestyle.

I showed this book to my husband, and he felt it was a good manual for young men, especially those who are getting out of school and entering the “real world” for the first time. After all, they’ll need to learn how to do their own laundry (if they’re not doing it already), groom themselves properly, prepare a resume, purchase a car, and much more. This book isn’t quite as comprehensive as the Introduction says, but it’s a good basis for guys to figure out the areas in which they may be lacking knowledge and then seek it out.

The Man Test would also make a great gift for Father’s Day! I can see the family’s male relatives gathered around a table, reading the questions to each other to see who really qualifies as a “real man”! This is a unique and easy-to-read book that will stimulate discussion and entertain the whole family.

I absolutely LOVED this book and as you may or may not know, I am not a man. As soon as my boyfriend got home from work the other day, I made him sit and humor me as I read him question after question until he got agitated and found something else to do... then I finished the book on my own. And this is not just a book that will interest men, it is very interesting for women too!

The book is a ton of multiple choice and true/false questions that will ask you about such subjects as etiquette, social situations, phone use, etc. I really liked reading about the etiquette questions because some of them I had heard before and others I was completely wrong about. (And my boyfriend guessed on most of them.) For instance, I was not aware that if you are not finished eating you are supposed to place your silverware on top of your plate with your fork facing up to signal that you aren’t done. I’m pretty sure no one that works at Red Lobster knows this, but it is still interesting to learn. There were questions about weddings and information about what all the groom is expected to pay for.

Along with the questions, there are also sections with snippets of information. All of this was very interesting to me. Now I can believe that I am a snooty know it all and annoy everyone with my plethora of useless knowledge! Oh, and apparently no matter what the phone call is about you are NEVER supposed to be on your phone in a social situation. You must always ask to excuse yourself to take care of whatever it is. Oops! Okay, so I knew this, I just chose to ignore it... I’m human!

MOTR Grade: A+

This book is a fun look at being a man. There have been so many times in the past where I have been stuck for something to talk about in a social setting, but this book opens the door to hours of conversations.

This book takes a fun look and pokes fun at dads but it is also is full a ton of information that will make your mind start buzzing! Though some of the questions made me get into a few debates. Though this was the case, the debates were fun and the test opened my eyes to what I knew and what I did not know.

Overall, a great book, one that will put a smile on your face and a lot of questions in your mind to bring up to others in the future!
