Rebecca Larsen shouldered open the door of her new Park Slope apartment and surveyed the wreckage. A pizza box lay open on the coffee table, containing the remnants of a sausage and mushroom pizza of indeterminate age. By this point, Becca was on her last nerve. Her cat had shrieked for the entire trip from Philadelphia to Brooklyn, and as Becca gazed about the room, she began to feel a sensation akin to entering the Twilight Zone.
Annabelle, Becca's best friend, sister-in-law, and resident of the apartment until two weeks ago, wasn't a neatnik by any stretch of the imagination, but Becca had never seen her leave this much of a mess. Empty beer bottles littered the remaining space on the coffee table, and a pair of very large shoes lay underneath. Men's shoes. Becca's sense of unease escalated. It definitely looked as if there was a man living there. Yep, the XXL fleece hoodie thrown on the couch was her first clue; the second was the singing that came from the direction of the bathroom seconds after the hiss of the shower started. Becca grabbed the baseball bat she found leaning against the wall by the closet and skulked to the bedroom. The bed was unmade, which wasn't startling, but the collection of men's jeans hanging off every surface as well as a mess of jockey shorts and socks on the floor certainly was. Not as much, though, as the voice coming from the shower. It was a rich bass baritone, and if she wasn't mistaken, he was singing an old '40s tune. God, who sings songs from the '40s? Whoever it was had a smooth, smoky, sexy-as-hell voice that was hot enough to make a woman melt like chocolate in a two thousand-degree kiln. The guy in the shower had one hell of a voice. Too bad he was also going to have one hell of a bruise.
She spent some time thinking about whether she should hit him while he was in the shower or wait until he got out. He'd gotten through the first stanza of his song and the whole chorus before she decided to wait until he emerged. The shower curtain might severely curtail the speed at which the bat would hit, and then there was the problem of proper aim.
Pushing the door open with the end of the bat, she watched the steam roll toward her and bring with it the scent of yummy-man. A man who smelled like that at any other time would have her following him just to get a whiff. His scent was clean, with citrus and spice overtones that made her mouth water. The body that stepped out of the shower bare-ass-naked stole the breath from her lungs, the attack plan from her memory, and made her thankful she was a woman who could appreciate the human form because she'd never seen one finer. Her eyes wandered back to his face just in time to see the corner of his full lips lift to form a grin. If looked at separately, each part of his face—the Roman nose, sapphire blue eyes, curled spiky black eye lashes—was almost pretty, but something about the way they fit together and the addition of his five-o'clock-shadow-before-noon, stole the prettiness from his face and made it arrestingly gorgeous. He was the Sicilian version of a Greek god. He had to be the most beautiful man she'd ever seen in person, and as a sculptor, she'd seen more than her fair share of beautiful people. Too bad she disliked him.
Rich Ronaldi looked over his shoulder to find his sister's best friend staring wide-eyed at his bare ass. Well, maybe it wasn't only his ass she stared at because when he turned, she got a load of the full monty.
Becca rested the end of the bat she carried on the floor. "Excuse me, but what the hell are you doing here?"
Rich had never been the shy type, but the women who got a load of him in the buff were usually invited to do so. Becca, Miss prim-and-proper-ice-princess, wasn't. He wished he knew where the damn towels were. He'd just moved in, well, in a figurative sense of the word. He'd stayed there for a few days, and he had a towel somewhere, but knowing himself, it was on the floor along with his dirty socks and underwear.
If he'd known she'd be coming by, he'd have kicked them into the closet or at least under the bed. But then, Becca was the last woman he'd expected to darken his doorstep. He had no clue why, but since their first meeting, he got the distinct impression she wasn't overly fond of him. "How did you get in here?"
Becca didn't seem to grasp the fact that standing naked in front of a woman who wouldn't normally give him the time of day is not the most comfortable thing to do. She didn't turn away or hand him a towel, not that there was one at hand. He brushed past her into the bedroom, saw a towel hanging off the footboard of his bed, and quickly tied it around his waist. The only reaction he saw from Becca was a blink.
"I used my key. What are you doing in my bedroom, taking a shower in my bathroom, which is conveniently located in my apartment?"
Rich let out a laugh. "Hold on. I'm the one asking the questions here. This is my apartment. I'm leasing it from Rosalie and Nick."
She crossed her arms, the action pulling her baggy sweatshirt taut across her chest. A chest he forgot she even had. When he realized he was staring, he returned his gaze to her face and found her rolling her eyes.
"You're impossible. So is your story since I'm subletting the apartment from Annabelle. It was her apartment, and now it's mine. You need to leave."
She looked like one of those sexy Anime cartoon characters. She was tall, just a few inches shorter than his own 6'3", and thin with long, long legs and short, choppy, platinum blonde, perpetually tussled hair that gave her a sexy as hell, just-been-fucked look. Rich mimicked her stance, careful not to spread his legs wide enough to dislodge the towel, though it would serve her right if he did. "You're wrong. Rosalie and Nick own the apartment. They rented it to Annabelle, who has since moved out. I moved in. If anyone is leaving, it's you."
"Well then, we have a problem. Because as of right now, I'm living here."
"Not with me, you're not."
"Exactly."
He waved his arm to encompass the whole apartment, and the whole mess he had scattered across it. "Possession is nine-tenths of the law."
"The only possession I see here is your mess. Everything I own that's not in storage is now in the living room, so, in that respect, as in others too numerous to count, you come up " She looked him up and down with a critical eye. " decidedly short."
Rich had half a mind to whip off his towel just to show her how very short he wasn't. He was a man comfortable with his body and his um size. Shit, he'd never had any complaints in that department, and from the look in Becca's eyes when she ogled him—and it was an ogle—she didn't have any complaints either. He was sure she was just trying to get a rise out of him, which she wouldn't. She wasn't his type.
No, Rich's type was a woman like his girlfriend, Gina: a little bombshell. She was all black-haired, copper-eyed, and built like a woman. She was a barely five-foot package of pure TNT. Gina dressed like a woman. You'd never find her wearing an old sweatshirt five sizes too big and a pair of low-slung baggy jeans. "Shit." He looked at the clock. He was going to be late. He was meeting his dean at the Harvard Club and then heading uptown for a date with Gina. "I don't have time to talk about this. I have somewhere to be. Why don't you go out to the living room and let me get dressed. I'll call Nick and Rosalie on my way and find out what to do about this mess. You can spend the night tonight because I have other plans, but I have to tell you, babe, you're gonna be looking for another place to rent."

What’s it about? Rich Ronaldi is a complete domestic disaster and when his girlfriend dumps him because hes not "relationship material," he vows to learn to cook and clean to prove her wrong and win her back. But he needs some help, a Domestic Coach, if you will. Luckily, because of a familial mix-up, hes sharing an apartment with Becca Larsen. Unfortunately, she cant stand him, but maybe shell help him anyway...
Random thoughts: This is a very cute, fun romance. Rich comes across as sweet and sexy a good combination any day. Breakfast in Bed is Kayes third book and Ill definitely be reading others from her. Luckily, I have her second book, Too Hot to Handle, on my bookshelves. Ill have to see if I can find a digital version of her first, Romeo, Romeo.
Robin Kaye has written a book full of romance and wit... along with a little tension... and some characters that you will love to fall in love with!
Once I picked up this book, I couldnt put it down. Rich is the ultimate LAZY bachelor, who still has his mothers help cleaning up his apartment and doing his laundry... he cant even make a cup of coffee for himself! Becca has strived to become a person people see for her own talent, not because of her family name.
Through circumstances beyond either of their control, they have both sublet the same apartment... Beccas loft/studio is being remodeled, and Rich has just moved to town, so neither one wants to move out! To make things more interesting, Richs long-distance girlfriend is no longer "long-distance" and she tells him that he is not long-term relationship material. After a talk with his friend and mentor at work, he feels pressure to show that he has a serious relationship, so sets out to make himself into a someone that Gina will take back.
After talking to his buddies, he determines that he must become a "Domestic God" at home in order to try to win Gina back, so he approaches Becca for help to become what he thinks Gina wants. After some convincing, Becca decides to go ahead and help him, and over the course of his lessons, he seems to only be able to learn things the hard way, causing me to laugh a lot!
I love how the story turns out, and the supporting characters in the book, especially Richs Aunt Rose (I challenge anyone NOT to simply adore her by the end of the book!), and Beccas cat Tripod.
I will say that I cant wait to go back and read the first two books as the characters from those books appear in this one, and now Ive got to see how they grew in their relationships!
This book is on fire! I cannot believe a book can be that hot and not somehow just spontaneously catch fire. My advice, keep water handy while reading. Anyone with a wacky family, a sense of humor and a passion for romance should read this.
For Rich and Becca, it’s definitely not love at first sight particularly when Becca’s first glimpse of Rich is as he’s stepping out of the shower. Her shower the one in the apartment she just rented. Or so she thought.
The living arrangements are tricky the pair have been promised the same New York City space by friends, and Becca arrives with all of her earthly possessions . . . plus a three-legged cat. Rich, a college psychology professor, has recently moved to the city to be closer to girlfriend Gina, an arrangement he thought was working out well. Until Gina unceremoniously dumps him, explaining she needs to be in a relationship with a man a bit more self-reliant than Rich. Someone who can wash his own clothes, clean a house and prepare a meal without the help of his doting mother, say.
Disheartened, Rich turns to Becca for help in becoming a “Domestic God” a man who can complete any household-related task with panache! He hopes Gina will be shocked out of her skull to discover how seriously he took her advice and they’ll pick up their relationship where they left off. And since Rich and Becca can’t reach a conclusion regarding who can “keep” the apartment, Becca’s domestic lessons are a type of trade-off for keeping the peace between them as they co-exist in the space. As long as they keep their hands to themselves, of course.
Which, you know, of course they don’t. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Rich, a handsome, kind-hearted teacher (y’all know I love some teachers)? So what if he can’t even make toast and turns his clothes and sheets gray by perpetually messing up the wash? I’d be aggravated, sure, but then I’d set him straight. And we’d live together in perfect romantic harmony, chatting in about academia and eating perfectly-cooked Italian meals. In our gorgeous apartment. In New York City.
But, alas, it’s not that simple. Becca, an artist, has all kinds of emotional baggage from previous relationships ones in which guys discovered she’s, um, filthy rich and then tried to take her for all she was worth. Understandably jaded, Becca is guarded and totally not ready to open her heart to Rich. Robin Kaye does a great job of balancing Becca’s hesitations regarding Rich without making her very annoying the whole time.
Still, I wanted to shake her as the novel wore on. Nervous, fearful and full of all sorts of assumptions regarding Rich, Becca seemed unable to let go of her preconceived notions of the “type” of guy Rich was and actually see him as a man willing and able to change. There’s a weird subplot about how Rich needing to be in a stable relationship at the nudging of his boss, which just seemed like an obvious contrivance for the plot’s sake and didn’t work for me.
But beyond that? The dialogue was sassy; the chemistry between the leads was palpable. An entertaining, fun contemporary romance with a few laugh-out-loud moments and excellent peripheral characters. Mike, Becca’s realistically protective older brother, and his wife Annabelle, Rich’s sweet younger sister, provide some balance to the burgeoning love between their siblings. I had a little difficulty keeping the characters and their relationships straight at first, mostly because Breakfast In Bed is actually the third book in Kaye’s series, but I eventually got it all straightened out. And now I’m curious about the first two!
Becca found Rich naked in her apartment. Rich is upset to find Becca in ‘his’ apartment. They’re stuck together. She is his sister’s best friend. Becca is attracted to Rich since she first saw him. Rich thought Becca dislike him on sight. When Rich wanted to make himself over to be more desirable to his girlfriend, Becca helped him out.
I love their journey into love. It wasn’t smooth or easy, but it certainly was steamy! Whew! I’m surprised this book didn’t spontaneously set itself on fire! I find myself laughing out loud at several places. I even like Rich’s freaky aunt who seemed clairvoyant. (Not to be confused with a peeping Tom).
This is the third book in the “domestic gods” series. I loved the first book, ROMEO, ROMEO. I liked the second book, TOO HOT TO HANDLE. I enjoyed this book. In my opinion BREAKFAST IN BED isn’t as good as ROMEO, ROMEO - but it is still a fun read. Becca was hard for me to put up with, because she isn’t happy with herself. She does show growth through the book, so I learned to love her. Rich was one of my favorite secondary characters from the first two books. He is a like a little boy in a man’s body at first, but grows up throughout this book. I liked watching them get it wrong and then so very right.
the book girl gives BREAKFAST IN BED a 4/5!
Becca Larsen lands in New York City, ready to take on the art world. When she moves into the apartment she sublet while her apartment and studio are being renovated, theres a slight problem. Theres already a tenent, Rich Ronaldi, who has also just moved in. Beccas brother is married to Richs sister, and the couple each rented the apartment without checking with the other.
Rich also has problems. He has just taken a job as a psychology professor at Columbia, but his dean seems to think that Richs fancy-free bachelor days should be coming to an end, and expects him to settle down. On top of that, his girlfriend, Gina, has just dumped him because he is the typical spoiled Mamas Boy who expects every woman to wait on him.
Rich and Becca dont like each other, although each is attracted physically. But both need a place to live, and Rich needs someone to help him learn to cook and clean and take care of himself. They agree to share the apartment for a few months. Will they overcome their intial feelings and learn to love each other?
Robin Kaye has written a wonderful romance. Light-hearted in tone, it keeps the reader turning the pages to see what will happen next in this relationship. The love scenes are steamy, and the characters are vivid. This book is recommended to romance readers.
Ive read and enjoyed the fun and games in Breakfast in Bed. It makes you laugh, shake your head in disbelief and roll your eyes at Rich (and wish you were Becca). Hes a man without a clue half the time and he has been all too used to the women of his family taking care of him. When he has to take care of himself, learn the basics of cleaning and cooking, hilarity errupts. Trust me, he gives a whole new meaning to "Scrubbing Bubbles".
Youre going to love Richs Aunt. Shes a hoot and a bit of a seer. Breakfast In Bed has lots sizzle, laughter, and fun. If you want to read a book that gives you a lift and leaves you chuckling afterwards, you have to read Breakfast In Bed.
My Thoughts: I loved this book! I love this author!! This is the 3rd Domestic Gods book. We have met the hero and heroine in the previous book Too Hot to Handle. Rich Ronaldi is a young professor that has come home to teach at Columbia. Becca is an artist that has moved from Philadelphia to New York to be closer to her best friend and family. Rich and Becca end up subletting the same apartment. One sister promised it the Rich and his other sister promised it to Becca. So now we have total opposites sharing an apartment so you know the sparks are going to fly.
Rich wants his ex-girlfriend back and ask Becca to help him. He thinks that if he becomes more domestic she will take him back and with her back that will help him with winning over his new bosses. Becca is a rich girl trying to make it on her own by moving to New York. The chemistry between Rich and Becca was fantastic. Rich is trying to take care of himself after being taken care of his whole life. Becca trying to deal with all the issue that come with having an absent father, than that father wanting to be part of her life. The chemistry between Rich and Becca was smoking and I love watch these two fall in love, be spilt apart and then brought back together again.
You get to visit the characters from the first two books which was great and fit in the with the storyline. Sometimes when you are reading a series the author will throw in characters from previous books just to make the reader happy. Ms. Kaye doesn’t do this the visits from these characters work great with the story.
If you haven’t pick up Romeo, Romeo, Too Hot to Handle and Breakfast in Bed what are you waiting for!!
Breakfast in Bed is a fun, contemporary romance. Rich Ronaldi is a sympathetic romantic lead. Hes attractive, willing to to learn to cook, clean, and do laundry to win back the woman he loves. Becca Larsen is independent, down-to-earth, and deserves a good man. I enjoyed watching these two characters fall in love and handle the hiccups along the way. If youre looking for a light, fast and romantic read, give Breakfast in Bed a try.
Rich Ronaldi is everything a girl would want. Hes handsome, smart and knows how to please a woman in bed. But when his girlfriend, Gina, leaves him because hes not long-term relationship material it causes a kink in Richs plan on securing tenure at his college.
Struggling artist Becca Larsen has a huge chip on her shoulder. She wants nothing more than to prove to her father that she can make it in the art world without her rich familys connections.
When circumstances land Rich and Becca in the same apartment they have no choice but to make it work while Beccas new apartment and studio are being remodeled. Then Rich has a brilliant idea. He convinces Becca to teach him how to become a Domestic God so that he can win Gina back and show the dean of his college that hes stable and dependable.
The only thing that neither of them counted on was the sparks that fly whenever theyre in the same room. Will Becca let Rich knock the chip off her shoulder and will Rich realize that his perfect match isnt the one hes trying to win back??
Breakfast in Bed is the third book in the Domestic Gods series. I read and loved Romeo, Romeo and have Too Hot Too Handle in my TBR pile but by reading this one out of order I didnt miss anything. Breakfast in Bed follows the tried and true romance recipe of the perfect couple finding love then getting torn apart only to come back together for a happily ever after but its still an amazing love story.
First off who wouldnt fall in love with a guy who goes from typical messy male who starts laundry on fire to an immaculate housekeeper that can brew a mean cup of coffee. I fell in love with Rich and wanted to smack Becca up side the head and I always say that when an author makes me care that much about characters the book is a must read. Breakfast in Bed is a quick, lightly steamy read that I recommend to all romance lovers.
Becca is a very talented artist that comes from a wealthy family. All she wants is to make a name for herself in the art community, without the help of her family name. She needs a place to stay for a few months while the brownstone she purchased with her brother, Mike and sister in-law, Annabelle is renovated. She walks into an apartment she is renting in the meantime to find Rich, in his naked glory, just getting out of the shower. Rich is Annabelle’s brother, and Becca has definitely noticed his attractive appearance in the past. Rich has rented the apartment from his other sister Rosalie, so now they are both stuck and neither is willing to leave. Becca doesn’t want the slob Rich to stay there, no matter how attractive he is.
Rich has just moved to to New York to become a professor of psychology at Columbia University. His mentor and dean encourages Rich to settle down his private life, after a very embarrassing fling with the dean’s daughter at his previous college. His current girlfriend, Gina has just dumped him, realizing Rich is not relationship material. Wanting to prove to his new boss he has his life under control, he needs to convince Gina that he is capable of being mature. He strikes a deal with Becca, they can both stay in the apartment, and Becca can teach him to become a “Domestic God" and she will be allowed to stay. Becca only has three months until her new house is finished, and doesn’t have the energy to look for another place at the moment so she takes him up on his deal He has two weeks to accomplish this before his dinner with the dean of his school. An attraction starts to develop as Becca teaches Rich the fine skills of ironing and laundry.
Breakfast in Bed is the first book I have read by Robin Kaye and I found it to be a very cute contemporary. At first I thought Rich being ignorant to washing the dishes, cooking and cleaning would be a bit hokey. I mean, he does have his doctorate, he is no dummy. However, his interactions with Becca, and her frustration with teaching him routine chores turned out to be quite funny. Rich is a very endearing character and when he messes up in the house, you just cant help but laugh. As Rich says,
"Your sandwich is ready. I even cut it in triangles like you asked."
"Im impressed. It looks great."
"It does?"
"Yes." She picked up a piece and took a bite.
From the look on her face, he knew she changed her mind. Then she kind of gagged and put her hand in front of her lips while she pulled something from her mouth. Oh, man. He screwed up.
Becca held a piece of plastic between her fingers.
"Rich, youre supposed to unwrap the cheese before you cook it."
"Right."
"What happened to yours?"
"I ate it."
Becca is a very likable heroine, very independent with a quick temper. She grew up in a wealthy family, but refuses to let that wealth shape who she is. She is a talented artist, but is very wary of letting her family name boost her career. She likes to do everything on her own, which Rich soon finds out.
The passion between them, once they acknowledge they truly don’t hate the other, is quite steamy. Very hot love scenes, including a mad dash home in the car with them unable to keep their hands off each other as they drive. My favorite kind of car ride!
I didn’t love the scenario of Rich’s boss telling him he preferred him to settle down with a woman and kind of hinting it is best for his career for him to do that. Rich is an intelligent person, and jumped to perform when his boss told him. It seemed a bit of a forced scenario. Also, by the end of the book, I wanted to give Becca a good shake for the way she treats Rich, but overall, I enjoyed both of these characters and I will definitely read Robin Kaye again.
Breakfast in Bed is fun, romantic and Rich will have you laughing at his attempt to become a Domestic God.
Rating: Four Stars
Breakfast in Bed will charm, delight and satisfy; yet another stunning release from Robin Kaye.
What can I say? Robin Kaye’s stories keep getting better and better! As usual, the male characters are deliciously yummy domestic gods…or in Rich’s case…a domestic god in training. With well-developed characters who are unique and all too human, Breakfast in Bed will seduce you with its sincerity. As with the first two books in this mouth-watering series, Rich is an alpha male to the core, though he can still get in touch with his feminine side if he has too. Tall, dark and sex pretty-much sums him up! He’s also loveable, a little too self-absorbed and a disaster in the kitchen. Rich seems like an arrogant womanizer at first, but he grows on you really quickly because he’s so darn cute. Rebecca Larson is unlike any woman he has ever met. Becca is strong, independent, standoffish, petite and blond; the exact opposite of the women that Rich normally dates. When Rich and Becca butt heads over who is the rightful tenant of their new apartment and Becca gets sucked into teaching Rich the “domestic” basics, things really start to heat up. I love the way that the story flows and how it includes the main characters from the first two books; Robin Kaye keeps the story fresh by injecting humor and real, honest-to-goodness humanity into her characters. My DH is a domestic god (in training) who reminds me of Rich at the beginning of this story; eager to please but all thumbs at times!
If you enjoy reading contemporary romance, do yourself a huge favor and pick-up this 3-book series for yourself or a friend; you’ll have hours of reading enjoyment ahead of you. These stories will make you laugh, smile, blush and feel good about the possibilities of finding Mr. Right.
I very highly recommend this book!!
♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ (9 out of 10 Diamonds) – Loved it!
Robin Kaye has written an engaging story of an independent woman who meets the man of her nightmares – and she can’t escape him. In Breakfast in Bed, Becca Larsen is an up-and-coming sculptor who has sublet an apartment from her best friend. Rick Ronaldi has sublet an apartment from his sister. Unfortunately, they have both sublet the same apartment and, the problem being, the two of them don’t like each other very much. In fact, Becca thinks Rick is a dumb jock and he thinks she is an ice princess.
Even though they both dislike each other, sparks still fly when Becca takes the first tour of her apartment and finds Rick in the shower, and you see hints of the beginning of an attraction for each other. However, a quickie affair is on no one’s agenda, Rick has a girlfriend, and Becca says she has no interest in him (but there is quite a bit of lust after a full frontal view in the shower). But, when Rick’s girlfriend dumps him due to his lack of domestic skills, Becca is suddenly one of Rick’s best friends, surely she can’t move out now - he needs her! Can she turn him into a domestic god, help him get his girlfriend back, and solidify his job prospects at the university? He sure hopes so . . .
Opening Rick up to the wonderful world of cooking and cleaning opens him up to feelings for Becca that surprise them both. And, of course, since they are young and healthy, those feelings eventually lead them to the bedroom and to some great sex scenes. This guy really knows what he is doing in the sack, she is enraptured, and he end up seriously falling for her - but she is unsure of him, why can’t they just have fun? After all, this is how her mother treated all her many men - just casual partners - why shouldn’t Becca?
This story gives you insight into a guy’s outlook when he can’t get the girl he wants and needs. If you’ve read many romances, you know that we often see a situation only from a woman’s point of view, but in Breakfast in Bed, Robin Kaye does a great job of telling both sides of the story – illustrating how we all often only see things from our perspective – when it’s both sides of the story that make for a lasting, successful relationship.
Rich Ronaldi is the ultimate hunk. He is tall, dark sexy and Italian. In addition that he is smart. Rich works as a Professor at the college. You would think he had it made. Well you would be wrong. Rich has just been dumped by his girlfriend, Gina. She tells him that he isn’t relationship material and he needs to start cleaning up after himself. Rich takes Gina’s words to heart. He will do anything to get Gina back even…become Mr. Clean.
Rebecca “Becca” Larsen gets the shock of her life. She comes home to find a strange man in her house. Becca learns that the man is her good friend. Annabelle’s brother, Rich. Right away, Becca despises Rich. Though, her thoughts of him change slightly when she catches him naked.
Rich needs to learn how to cook, clean, and do laundry in a hurry. He convinces Becca to teach him. She agrees but only because she doesn’t really have anything better to do. Will these two end up cooking something special together?
The first time I read anything by Robin Kaye was the book, Romeo, Romeo. I loved that book. I couldn’t stop laughing. Breakfast in Bed was just a good. All of Rich’s mishaps had me smiling. The chemistry between Rich and Becca was sizzling. Becca was the girl next door and Rich was the hot Italian guy, you never thought would be interested in you. Rich’s naïve approach to cooking and cleaning had me laughing with joy. Even when he messed up you couldn’t help but forgive him. Next time you are looking for a good book to read, pick up a copy of Breakfast in Bed. You won’t be sorry.
After the first several chapters in this book, the idea of putting it down and starting a different one came to me a number of times. I’m one, however, who doesn’t like to not finish a book. And in this case, am I glad I didn’t succumb to that original thought.
During those first chapters I kept telling myself this is a plot we’ve read before. Over and over again. Hero and current girlfriend break up before a big to-do he needs for his career, gets heroine to help him out, they fall in love along the way. That’s pretty much how it all starts. After the break-up, Rich asks Becca to help him become more domesticated so he’s relationship material to get the ex-girlfriend back. Even though Becca’s been attracted to him since they met at her brother’s marriage to his sister, she’s kept that to herself and pretended not to like Rich very much. But when they’re thrown into living together for a few months all platonic of course to keep the peace she agrees to help him out.
I also didn’t care much for Rich in these chapters. He’s in his early thirties, is a slob at home, typical man when it comes to women. I felt the author needed to do some fancy footwork to make me change my mind about him. What did she do, you ask? Humor. She had me laughing out loud.
When the cooking lessons begin is when this book picks up and the fun starts. Rich’s first assignment is to fix grilled cheese sandwiches. Simple, right? Yeah, Rich thought so too when Becca explained it to him. Didn’t turn out that way, however, and that ends up being one of the best scenes in the book. There are several more that also made me laugh quite a bit. This is where I started to soften toward Rich.
Rich comes from a big Italian family, one he calls dysfunctional. But they don’t have a thing on Becca’s family. She left Philadelphia to get away from their influence, especially when it comes to her work. She’s an artist and she wants to make it on her own, not on the coattails of her doctor father or socialite mother. It’s interesting how Rich, growing up as he did, was actually coddled, so to speak, so that he didn’t learn the basics of keeping house; whereas Becca, coming from money, servants taking care of the home, and she’s the one who’s teaching him how to cook, clean, and do laundry.
First come an undeniable attraction between them, Rich really seeing Becca for the first time. The sex is great of course, and it’s Rich who says the L-word first. He’s straightforward with his feelings; one who knows what he wants and he goes for it. It’s Becca who’s the list maker, who has to think things over before making a decision, and who doesn’t believe love is for her. Their conflict stems from Rich wanting Becca to succeed, to get what she wants, though he goes about it the wrong way, and even Becca is a little guilty of that in her own right.
But as the two of them talk about a few times during their story, the make-up sex is great. I enjoyed their love scenes. They’re honest and fun as well as intense and fulfilling. The scene with the dining room table is one of the best and one of the most heart wrenching when all is said and done.
I got the feeling from things I came across this is not the first book about some of the characters I read about, and, sure enough, there’s two books prior to this one. I”m sure I even have one in the TBR pile. I’m going to be digging that one out and hunting down the other. Ms. Kaye’s characters are engaging and charming and I want to know more about them.
Grade: B
Robin Kaye had me laughing out loud at parts of this deliciously enchanting book. Which is good, because, um, I had a hard time getting over Richs name. I kept thinking his last name is Rinaldo instead of Ronaldi. But, back to the laughing-out-loud parts. Robins characters are funny, sympathetic, and identifiable. Well, maybe except for the boys telling Rich what to do to get Becca back. I cant see that happening in real life. =)
Then again, this is a romance novel, which means, really, that its an escape from real life. So, whatever works! The book is entertaining, and easy to breeze through. Pick it up if youre a fan of the genre.
Loved it! This is my first Robin Kaye book (yes, this is part of series and I havent read the first two) and cant wait to pick up another! This story was cute, funny and incredibly sexy!
Both Rich and Becca have issues. Its what make them who they are. Rich is an alpha male and Italian to boot. Becca is extremely wealthy and doesnt trust the male species not to just be after her money. So, when they find out that they both have to occupy the same apartment for a while, they have to come to some sort of truce.
Since Richs girlfriend recently broke up with him, he solicits Becca to teach him to be more relationship material. He needs to learn to cook, clean and do laundry if he wants to settle down and convince his ex to come back to him. At first, Becca is more than happy to oblige just to get Rich out of her hair sooner. But, as she sees Rich trying so hard she begins to want him for herself. As for Rich, the more he tries to become a man ready to settle down, he figures out that its not his ex that hes really after.
I literally laughed out loud multiple times while reading this book. Rich is hilarious in his determination to become what he calls a Domestic God. Its no wonder Becca eventually falls for him! She tried hard to continue to dislike him, but as he tries harder and harder to be a good man, Becca sees a different side of him. At the same time, Rich is seeing a different side of Becca that she keeps hidden from the rest of the world. Its obvious from the beginning that these two are going to hook up, but that didnt keep me from turning the pages as fast as I could. I wish Id have had the time to read this in one sitting, but it only took me two days. I had it open in my hands at every available opportunity.
Kayes ability to create characters is awesome. She made me want to know them! Richs Aunt Rose was just a sideline, but she was interesting and funny. Vinny, another side character was also well developed and made me want to meet him. I really think thats why it was so easy to love the book and feel all the emotion just as though I was a part of it.
4.5 stars
I havent read Robin Kayes first two books and the couples from the first two books do make appearances in Breakfast in Bed, but I dont think you need to read those to enjoy Breakfast in Bed. Kaye supplies enough back story to give the reader a sense of who the previous two couples are and what their relationships are with Rich and Becca.
First I want to talk about Rich, for a couple of reasons. I found him a very interesting and likable character, with his serious side of psych professor at Columbia and his equally playful side as sexy boyfriend to Gina. He was so adorable and sweet, I could just eat him up! His one drawback... he was a major slob! When Gina dumps him he thinks he can get her back by literally cleaning up his act. He also needs a dinner date for a special event that he hopes will impress his boss. So he turns to Becca, his reluctant roommate, to help him learn to be a domestic god. It was funny to see Richs attempts at cooking, cleaning and doing all things domestic. Rich had been so spoiled by the women in his life that he was clueless when it came to anything domestic. But he soon caught on and actually became good at it. The tenacity he applied towards cooking and cleaning he also applied in his desire to have Becca in his bed.
Becca, for me, was not very likable at first. She just didnt click for me when I first met her. I think at least part of it had to do with my fascination for Rich. I just found him more likable than Becca. Becca was more closed off, less trusting and harder to get to know. Becca was very stubborn when it came to having Rich in the same apartment and the misunderstanding that caused both of them to be there. She seemed so caught up in her own world of getting her apartment ready to move in and her gallery ready to open. I get that those are busy times and that she didnt have time to cater to Rich. Plus, Rich had left a bad impression on Becca when they last met. She really didnt like him, but was attracted to him, which we know always causes those conflicting emotions. But as Becca started to thaw towards Rich she also started to become more open and more likable to me. Once I got to know her, to understand her, I found that I liked her.
Rich and Becca together - funny, hot, sexy, sweet, touching and emotional. All those words can describe their relationship of reluctant friends to lovers. They were actually good for each other. Rich listened to Becca and didnt give a damn about her money (she came from a very, very rich background). And Becca didnt cater to Rich but let him stumble and fall a few times on his road to being a domestic god. What did surprise me is that as their relationship grew it was Rich who showed more maturity when it came to handling the deeper feelings and emotions. In the beginning I got the sense that Becca was the more mature of the two, basically because she could actually take care of herself while Rich came across as a lost cause when it came to the basics. He really was quite funny. Some of the best parts of the book.
The problem I had with Rich and Beccas relationship came towards the end. This is where, IMO, that Becca proved to be the less mature of the two and her actions really bugged me. Here she has this wonderful guy that is crazy about her and what does she do? Ugh! And I will admit that my feelings about Rich may have made me a little harder on Becca but, dammit, she hurt him! LOL I think a little honesty and talking would have gone a long way in avoiding the misunderstandings but it all worked out in the end and Rich and Becca got their HEA.
All in all, Breakfast in Bed turned out to be a funny, enjoyable romance. Now I need to dig into my tbr pile and read Romeo, Romeo. Its about Rosalie (Richs sister) and Nick Romeo who is already a domestic god.

Rating: B+
I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. I was in the mood for a romance and this one was the perfect one to pick up.
Rich and Becca were such great characters. Rich was the typical mama’s boy that, as an Italian woman, I have gotten used to. I found it really interesting that he was trying to domesticate himself for a woman because all his friends had already been trained. It was sweet and something completely unexpected because I have grown up expecting the opposite. I also like the fact that he declares his feelings first. It puts all of the power in Becca’s hands and the feminist in me loves that. Becca was also a great character. She was fiesty and intelligent. I really identified and liked her. I sometimes have trouble reading modern romances because I try to hard to find some common ground with the heroine and often find myself stymied but I had no trouble identifying with Becca.
I also thought the premise of Breakfast in Bed was really ingenious and forward thinking. Usually it is the woman who must learn to cook and clean in order to be “marriageable” at least in my experience. I have often been told by certain dunderheaded aunts of mine that no man would marry me if I did not gain some domestic skills. I thought it was really interesting to see a man trying to learn how to cook and clean in order to be a good husband.
Perhaps my favorite part of this book was the tension between Rich and Becca. They had such a powerful connection and chemistry. I also love that they were constantly fighting and arguing. I tend to love romances where the couple hates each other initially. It’s the Darcy-Bennet complex and I can’t help it.
I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a smushy romance to start your new year off with.
Grade: A-
Im picky when it comes to contemporary books, its not my preferred genre, but I do enjoy reading them. Its a mood thing. However, Robin Kaye has been a lovely addition to the contemporary genre and after reading all three books in the series, a solid auto buy for me.
Onto Breakfast in Bed... After reading Too Hot to Handle and realizing that Rich and Becca were going to hook up, I couldnt wait to see how Ms. Kaye was going to do it. Becca gives this appearance of who she wants people to think she is, but most dont know. Rich is this guy who is ready to settle down and be taken seriously. Too bad his girlfriend just dumped him! After begging Becca to help him in the domestic department to win back his ex, Rich finds that there is a whole lot more than meets the eye in Becca and falls in love. The road to get there isnt easy. Beccas a hard butt, almost to the extreme. Rich breaks down those barriers and Becca eventually succumbs to love!
This story was a great combination of sweet, emotional, funny and sexy. There was one particular part where Rich discovers some of Beccas old art, which emotionally moves the story forward with the smallest of actions, I just loved it!!!
If you havent read any of Ms. Kayes books, you are sure missing out on a fantastic new writer.
Self assured and sexy Rich Ronaldi is completely lacking in domestic skills. Why bother when youre the only male offspring of an Italian family and have a mother whos spoiled you rotten? But after seeing how happy his two sisters are, married and settled down with their own domestic gods, and exacerbated by a sudden urge to settle down himself, Rich figures that learning how to cook and clean is a small price to pay if it means winning his girlfriend back. And who better to turn him into a more nurturing, caring and cleanly soul than his little sisters best friend, Becca Larsen?
Unfortunately, Beccas having a few personal issues of her own, not the least of which is having to deal with the good looking and incredibly sexy Rich Ronaldi. The fact that theyre temporarily stuck living in the same cramped apartment certainly isnt going to help her get over the crush shes had for a man whos never considered her as being anything more than an old family friend. But when Rich does begin taking serious notice of Becca, both professionally and romantically, he soon realises that he might just have been pursuing the wrong woman all along.
Robin Kaye has already hit the jackpot with the first two releases in her fun and witty Domestic Gods series; she does so again with Breakfast in Bed. There are plenty of laugh out loud hilarious situations, most especially when the completely clueless yet well-meaning Rich puts some of Beccas household lessons into practice. Pay particular attention to the chapter where he decides to be extra helpful and wash a load of Beccas delicates.
If youre in the mood for a smart, witty, romantic and completely satisfying contemporary romance, then you wont go wrong with Breakfast in Bed.
Robin Kaye continues her Domestic Gods Series with Annabelle Ronaldi’s best friend Becca Larson and a serious twist in her domestic gods in the form of Rich Ronaldi, who may be a god but isn’t a domestic one.
Ms. Kaye’s humor shines from the start when Becca, Miss prim-and-proper-ice-princess, takes her baseball bat and confronts the Sicilian version of a Greek god, Rich in the shower. Things then become like an old time romantic comedy with both characters living in one apartment.
What I really enjoyed was the fact that in this story our god, Rich, may have looked like one but he could not do anything even remotely domestic. Unfortunately, he also had some previous playboy problems that led him to relocate at Columbia University. His ultimate tenure hinges on being a proper professor in a stable relationship. When his semi-girlfriend leaves him on the same day the ultimatum is laid down, Rich turns to the only person available who can help him get back his girl, Becca.
I have to warn you to keep a box of tissues handy. I know I needed them as I was laughing so hard; I had tears rolling down my cheeks throughout Rich’s domestication duties. When you read about the grilled cheese, remember, you were warned.
Becca was perfect as a teacher to Rich. She knew what she wanted – Rich and she taught him everything he needed to know to get his girl – her. I was only upset with Becca when she lost faith in her herself and believed the worst about Rich. I could understand her feelings but I wanted things to be happy and smooth throughout the story.
We still have the rich multitude of characters that add so much to the storyline and keep the plot continually moving. Breakfast in Bed would not have been the fantastic read it was if not for the likes of Annabelle and Mike, Henry and Wayne, and especially Tripod.
Breakfast in Bed is another fascinating look at the Ronaldi family and their friends that provided me with hours of enjoyment. I can’t wait to see who the next god Ms. Kaye decides to grace with their own book.
Top Pick Addition
BREAKFAST IN BED, third in the Domestic Gods series, picks up with Rich Ronaldi, an immature man whose own mom cooks his dinner and does his laundry. Becca is the artsy type who molds clay for sculptures, and Rich desires her to mold him into the perfect man-one who cooks, cleans, and takes care of himself-all so he can get back his old girlfriend.
BREAKFAST IN BED asks the age old question, "What happens when you make yourself over for the woman of your dreams, and she turns out to be the wrong one?"
When I first asked to review this novel, I did so because I love friends-turned-to-lovers stories. But when I read this, I realized these characters barely knew each other, and that was slightly disappointing to me and bit off-putting, to say the least. Even though disappointment flooded me I kept reading, keeping an open mind.
The storys fast pace, the exciting twists and turns, kept my eyes glued to the pages. In the end, the story satisfied me. Would I read it again? Oh, yes, I would!
One further note: This book has many foul words, which I had to mentally bleep because of my no cursing rule. I just thought Id warn readers out there who might have an aversion to crude language.

Breakfast in Bed is the third book in Robin Kaye’s Domestic Gods series. While I had a few issues with it, on the whole I found it to be an enjoyable read.
Moving to New York to be closer to her new-found brother and sister-in-law Annabelle, Becca Larsen needs a temporary place to stay while her new brownstone is being renovated. When Annabelle offers to sublet Becca her old apartment, it’s the perfect solution. Only, when Becca shows up to move in, she finds someone else has already taken up residence - and not just any someone else, but Rich Ronaldi, Annabelle’s brother - a man Becca can’t stand.
Rich Ronaldi has just moved back to New York and taken a position as a psychology professor at Columbia University. Since it’s so difficult to find a decent place to live, he’s been subletting his sister Rosalie’s apartment. What he didn’t know is that his other sister, Annabelle, had offered to let Becca sublet it. Rich has no plans on sharing the apartment with Becca – that is, until his girlfriend breaks up with him for not being “relationship material.” Determined to win his girlfriend back, Rich sets out to prove that he can learn to cook and clean with the best of them. He offers Becca a deal: if she teaches him how to become a Domestic God, he’ll let her stay in the guest bedroom. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Becca agrees.
On the whole this was a cute, fun read. There was a bit of a sagging middle, but the latter portion of the book seemed to fly right by. Rich is completely hopeless when it comes to anything involving cooking, cleaning, or laundry, and his mishaps along the way provide for many laugh-out-loud moments. His driving desire behind getting his girlfriend back is that his boss wants to see Rich “settle down,” and Rich too is beginning to think it’s time. But it’s pretty obvious that Rich is focused more on the goal of winning his girlfriend back, and not on how he actually feels about her – which is lukewarm.
Given the setup, I thought I’d see a lot more of Becca actually teaching Rich various tasks, but really she just gives him the barest of instruction and sends him off. In truth she has no interest in helping him – she doesn’t even like the man – so she’s just doing the bare minimum to get to stay in the apartment. Consequently, Rich gets into a lot of trouble – some believable, some not-so-believable. Most of the time I laughed and went along with it, but there was at least one occasion when I just couldn’t believe that anyone as smart as Rich is supposed to be would also be so outrageously stupid.
Which brings me to the whole idea of Rich being a psychology professor: it didn’t quite jibe for me. Almost everything about Rich, from his personality to his behavior, just didn’t seem to fit with him being a professor at an Ivy League university. For long periods of time I would forget that part of the plot, and when I was reminded it was somewhat of a jolt.
Conversely, I really enjoyed that Becca was a sculptor. She may be rich – from a sizable trust fund – but she’s quite grounded. Her determination to make a name for herself independent of her family background was admirable, as was her desire to maintain her relationship with her newly discovered brother.
Despite the issues I had, overall I enjoyed Breakfast in Bed, and plan to check out the previous entries in the series.

When Becca moves into her brother and best friends apartment while waiting for her condo and studio in the brownstone to be ready, the last thing she expects is to have to share it with her best friends brother Rich. Shes loathed him since the day she met him at their siblings engagement party. Rich doesnt necessarily feel the same way but he definitely does enjoy his unique ability to get under her skin. However, Rich realizes he needs to play nice once hes dumped by his girlfriend for not being suitable boyfriend material. The only problem with that is, Rich needs to get back his ex for a double date with the Dean after the debacle surrounding his departure at his last Ivy League teaching job. He needs to prove how dedicated to his career he is, and apparently his personal life plays into it. Rich barters with Becca to help to domesticate him. She finally agrees against her better judgment, and the two find themselves getting along much better than anticipated, and their chemistry is undeniable.
I breezed through this book in hours, it was such a quick fun story. Ive shied away from out and out romance for a few years ( I went through a Harlequin obsession in 8th and 9th grade. I know, I know), but the title and the cover just looked so fun! side note: I received a galley from Danielle @ Sourcebooks and it looks like the cover has changed unless there was a UK cover. I was not disappointed. The characters were vivid and fun, and the banter was playful and witty. There were a couple times things were mentioned that I wish there was more backstory on and lo and behold there is! This is the third installment in Robin Kayes Domestic Gods series and I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on the first two books Romeo, Romeo and Too Hot to Handle.
If youre in the mood for a light breezy read with a happy ending, but enough twists and turns to make it interesting, dont miss this book.

Rich Ronaldi was just dumped by his girlfriend, and he cant stop thinking about the stories his friends tell of cooking and cleaning their way into their womens hearts. Adamant to win back his girlfriend, he enlists the help of his friend, Becca Larsen.
Becca is glad to help out her friend, but making him over for another woman? No way is she giving him over to another woman when he is the only man who has ever known Becca for the woman she is inside. The only roadblock will be convincing him that she is the only woman he will ever need.
Breakfast in Bed is a fun and sexy romp from beginning to end. The characters are ones you would love to call friend. Author Robin Kaye has a knack for reaching right into the readers heart and giving them a story to match their deepest desires. Becca and Rich are perfect for each other. The chemistry leaps off the page whenever they are together. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered them on as they frolicked their way to a happily ever after. Bravo, Ms Kaye!

With snappy dialogue, complex characters and an intricate web of relationships, Kaye has created an extended family thats both honest and enjoyable. Even the recognizable plot conventions, a semi-psychic aunt and a peculiar pet, dont feel tired in this story of forgiveness and family ties, the third book in her Domestic Gods series.
Summary: All Becca wants is to focus on her artwork. So when she sublets a relatives apartment, she doesnt count on having to share it with Rich, her sister-in-laws hunky brother. Rich couldnt be more thrilled about the accident; he needs Becca to teach him how to be a domestic god to win back his ex.
Becca and Rich make good roommates, but they struggle to translate their trust as roommates into trust as partners. Their relationship is tested by trust issues and lies of omission, but will these challenges be too much for Beccas bruised heart? (SOURCEBOOKS, Dec., 384 pp., $6.99) HOT
I loved this book!

Review:
Thanks to a snafu and plenty of miscommunication between her best friend Annabelle and his sister, Rosalie, Rich Ronaldi finds himself the unexpected and unwanted roommate of Rebecca Larsen. But once the domestically challenged Rich gets dumped by his girlfriend, Gina, he uses the opportunity to have Becca improve on his skills around the house, hoping to win her back.
Rich may be gorgeous and intelligent, but Beccas not really sure she even likes him, and she certainly doesnt want to help him get back with Gina. She even finds it hard to believe that hes actually a professor. So when Rich pulls the relative card and calls dibs on the apartment, she has no choice but to give in. Needing a place to stay while her home is being renovated, Becca goes against her better judgment and agrees to the madness of teaching Rich all of her gastronomic skills. Let the fun begin.
Richs attempts to change who he is for all the wrong reasons is what drives the story of Breakfast in Bed , and readers will be absolutely delighted with the witty dialogue and klutzy scenes that are fast-paced and laugh out loud funny. Despite being a romantic comedy, Robin Kaye brilliantly uses each of her characters to create a portrait of genuine relationships, complete with trust issues, family dynamics and more. Becca struggles painfully with some very personal demons and Rich is determined to understand this woman who is so different from any female hes ever known. As this tale continues to unfold, it becomes blazingly clear that change is inevitable when you meet and fall for the right person, but are they able to get past those bumps in the road and realize that for themselves? Breakfast in Bed will definitely leave fans eager for the next installment; I know I cant wait!
