Policy and Guidelines for The Wattys 2013, Sourcebooks Prize

The Prize shall be defined as an editorial review of and feedback on the work posted on Wattpad and selected as the winner in conjunction with the Wattys contest, termed The Manuscript. As part of the Prize a Sourcebooks editor in the appropriate category will review The Manuscript and provide developmental feedback including advice on characters, plots, settings, and overall writing style. The feedback will be geared toward improving the Manuscript in preparation for publication consideration.

Should The Manuscript meet the publication criteria of the Sourcebooks acquiring editorial team, including length, content, market viability, and other factors, Sourcebooks will have first option to offer the author a publishing contract. The Author will not entertain offers of publishing contracts from any other publishing houses, nor will they self-publish on any platform, paid or unpaid, other than Wattpad unless Sourcebooks chooses not to offer a publishing contract. Sourcebooks will have a period of six (6) months to offer a publishing contract, after which the author make approach other publishers or self-publish as they choose. Sourcebooks in under no obligation to offer a publishing contract as part of The Prize.

In the process of selecting the winner of The Prize, Sourcebooks will review the 2 Watty winners from all 8 original fiction categories (total of 16 Watty winners). Sourcebooks may choose to, but is not obligated to, review the works of the top 10 finalists of all 8 Original Fiction categories (16 Watty winners plus 64 other finalists, a total of 80 works), selected per the Watty Awards guidelines and voting system, to be announced by Wattpad at the end of November. Entries shall be read by qualified Sourcebooks personnel and evaluated based on character development, plot, world-building, settings, overall writing style and publication potential, among other criteria. A Sourcebooks committee will then make a collective final decision, to be announced on February 3, 2014.
