In this third in the series, wildlife photographer Tessa Anderson must prove her brother innocent of murder charges. But when she discovers a gorgeous naked man barely alive on her beach, she's got a new world of troubles to deal with, not least of which is how he affects her with just a look, a touch, or a whispered word.

Hunter Greymore is a lupus garou, a grey werewolf. Hoping to keep a low profile at Tessa's cabin on the coast, he's drawn into her life—and into her bed. His animal instincts war with his human half, but in the end, the only thing he can do about this fascinating, adorable woman is to leave her forever —unless she becomes one of them.

Armchair Interviews Wendy Hines
An award-winning author of medieval historical romantic suspense treats us to a magical romance of a werewolf and a human, and how love can conquer all.

Tess Anderson is a wildlife photographer for a magazine. She doesn’t really like it, but she needs the money to help defend her brother. But as she is risking her life to snap pictures of a forest fire, a grey wolf appears. She retreats, but not without her heart in her mouth. It’s uncommon for any animal to stay where danger threatens, but she can’t think about it now as she is on the way to her brother’s trial for murder.

Hunter Greymore is a lupus garou–a grey werewolf. When the forest fire gets too close to their home, he and his sister Meara packs up what belongings they can. They travel to his Uncle Basil’s cabin to stay and to see if any of their pack return. But down the road from the cabin lives a wildlife photographer and her brother, and it won’t do for them to catch Hunter or his sister shape-shift.

But when Hunter shows up on Tess’s beach half-naked and injured, she has even more problems. For instance, how attracted she is to him. Hunter doesn’t recall how he ended up on Tess’s beach, but he does remember he is a werewolf. So to keep a low profile, he stays with Tess at her cabin and soon is immersed in her investigations for her brother as well as trying to figure out his own past. But the chemistry sizzles between Tess and Hunter and a choice will soon have to be made. They can’t remain together if she remains human.

Action-packed romance and suspense-filled plot add up to pure magic. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Terry Spear is a great addition to the paranormal genre!

Armchair Interviews says: A paranormal romp that sizzles!

Hunter Greymore is an alpha werewolf with the responsibility of caring for his sister and trying to get his pack in order. Tessa Anderson is a photographer who is fascinated with wolves just as much as they are with her. With her brother in prison for a murder he didn’t commit, Tessa was fighting to prove his innocence as well as trying to fight against the unseen enemy who threatens her. The last thing Hunter wanted was to get involved with a human female. But one whiff of Tessa’s seductive scent will send Hunter into the mating urge. Soon Hunter will find his hands filled with rouged werewolves, threats against Tessa, and trying to keep her safe along with his sister who seems determine to undermine his authority.

Do not attempt to start reading this book unless you have a full two hours to sit and be held spell bound by what begins to unfold from the first page of this story. With absolute fascination and intrigue, I was held captive and unable to put this book down. In my mind’s eye I could imagine everything that took place within the pages of this book. That is how well this book is written. Tessa is a mixture of enticement and strength for her caring nature. Hunter is just as his namesake, a hunter in the truest form and leadership comes naturally to him. His attraction to Tessa was like a runaway freight train that couldn’t be stopped. One taste of Tessa and Hunter was hooked. Soon Hunter and Tessa were caught up in not only the sexual heat of passion and kinky displays, but Tessa was caught up in a web of unknown origin. For Tessa and her brother were more than they seem and with a quick slash of the pen Author Terry Spear will have you caught up and panting for more. A great story to enjoy for the summer.

TopPick: Top Pick Addition

Reading TO TEMPT THE WOLF was like watching a movie in HD. The characters were all vivid and lively. There was a lot going on in the story, but I was able to keep up with who everyone was, and what their roles were because everything was related. Never once did the author go off track, into an area of confusion.

As the story progressed, Tessa’s home became a haven for wayward werewolves; at a time when she needed their help the most, they were there. Especially Hunter, who even though is a stranger becomes her rock and salvation. The chemistry was spot on. The sex was great, not dragged out and boring, but not too fast that you missed all of the important parts, either.

For me, the main part of the story became the coziness of it. Even though the book is a romance novel, you become interested in the relationships that are being formed by Tessa, Hunter’s friends, and family. I liked how Ms. Spears was able to focus on Tessa and Hunter, but also introduce other important characters that made this an intriguing story and to see how far each of those characters would go to care for each other.

I usually don’t read werewolf stories, but Ms. Spear’s has spun a web of drama that pulled me in. And for this, I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. Get it; read it; you’ll love it!

Wildlife photographer Tessa Anderson is taking pictures of an out of control California wildfire when the wolf rushes her; she escapes and thinks she best go back to Oregon for her brother’s murder trial. At the same time she drives by, twin sibling grey lupus garous Hunter and Meara Greymere leave the inferno to move to the cabin on the Oregon coast left them by their uncle who retired to the Everglades.

Soon afterward in Oregon, Tessa comes by, but Meara tells her to leave. Tess insists she was to have dinner with Uncle Basil as he told her to call him, but Meara remains unfriendly until Tess sarcastically says nice meeting you and goes, but makes it clear she will insure Uncle Basil is okay. Afterward Meara demands her brother find her a mate or she will join the others. While Hunter worries about his no longer compliant sister, he also finds himself wanting the human photographer. However as his pack deserts him, several beings attack Hunter. Wounded, he swims to the beach near Tess’ home. Tess helps him and soon she is a target of his enemies and of his wanting her.

The third werewolf romance (see DESTINY OF THE WOLF and HEART OF THE WOLF) is an enjoyable action-packed thriller from the fiery onset to the mystery of what is going on in Coastal Oregon. Fans of the series will enjoy the tale of the Gray Pack forced to relocate near a Red Pack (in Portland) as werewolves are territorial. Tessa is an intrepid human female who is not afraid of the big bad wolf while Hunter has found his soul mate ironically as he has tried for almost two centuries to find Meara’s alpha mate. Terry Spear provides an engaging paranormal romantic suspense as gold is the greedy lowest common denominator and love the highest common denominator.

Star-Crossed Romance Lynda K. Scott
Tessa Anderson’s main concern is getting her wrongly convicted brother out of prison and to do that, she must find the one guilty of committing murder. But finding a naked man washed up on the rocky beach beneath her Oregon cabin in the freezing cold will either put a crimp in her plans or help her solve the mystery surrounding her brother’s case.

Of course, the man is a mystery all on his own. Tall and buff and handsome in a way guaranteed to scatter any woman’s thoughts, Hunter doesn’t remember who he is or where he came from. All he can, in fact, remember is that he’s an alpha of his werewolf pack. Who or where that pack is, he has no idea. So his first instinctive goal is to discover who he is but he can’t leave the petite, red-headed beauty to struggle alone to find the truth in her brother’s murder case and he can’t leave her alone when he discovers she’s being stalked by another werewolf - one who wants her for his own. Especially since as he grows to know Tessa, Hunter finds the idea of her being with another man...offensive.

The problem? He’s a royal, he needs a royal mate and he’s opposed to turning humans into werewolves, no matter how beautiful they are.

Ms Spear has created a fast, adventurous novel full of sexy romance. The chemistry between Hunter and Tessa is apparent right from their first encounter even though both try to fight it. That’s something we’ve come to expect from a writer of Ms Spear’s caliber. She has a deft hand creating very human, very sensual characters that step right off the page.

I particularly found the bits and pieces of the werewolf culture revealed in this book to be fascinating even though the males tend toward the domineering. Well, they tend that way but Ms Spear gives them heroines strong enough, mentally and emotionally, to set the boys back a few steps — which is as it should be.

The book will be available in September. Buy it. I think you’ll like it.

The Long and Short of It Reviews
Tessa Anderson is a strong woman with equally strong conflicts raging about her. She not only has to deal with trying to protect her brother, but has to fight for her life and her belief about who she is. Even with that, it doesn’t diminish her sassy tongue and can-do attitude. Tessa has moxie and she is going to need every bit of it when other men decide she’s got something they want and will do anything to get it. Tessa only has one man willing to stand in their way and until the truth gets revealed he’s torn about even doing that.

The ‘he’ in question is Hunter. How innocently it starts for him. His home gets burned out so he moves to his uncle’s place in another state. It looks so nice, scenic and relaxing. Oh, how the surface deceives. Poor Hunter gets his shorts in a twist on so many conflicting levels, it’s almost funny. Except the stakes are high and nothing throws him for a loop as much as when he figures out the truth about Tessa. It ups the ante to a very suspenseful and exciting level. Hunter is also an alpha and you know what alphas are like. The dynamic of a man bent on protecting those he deems under his care clashing with a fiery red-headed human virago who is stubborn and inquisitive, promises you a very entertaining read.

The secondary characters, like Meara, Hunter’s sister; or Devlyn, the missing link, are only a couple of the varied cast that adds flavor and meat to the plot. There are bad guys that you expect and some you don’t. It was that dual level of badness that kept the suspense spiked and interesting. Ms. Spear also does a wonderful job of creating Hunter’s shifter society and how different communities interact with each other, from politics to courtship. It was like surfing an online candy shop. You think to pick your favorites but soon realize there is so much more to offer, you need and want to investigate the other confections; you’ll be back.

To Tempt the Wolf is perfect reading for those who love to mix their romances with paranormal adventure, suspenseful intrigue and a couple who know how to heat the sheets and our hearts.

The Curious Reader Jessica West
Tessa Anderson has always been drawn to wolves, as has her brother Michael, though neither of them can explain why. But when Michael is convicted of a murder he did not commit, Tessa is left alone in their cabin in the woods, and discovers that she is being stalked. When she finds a gorgeous naked man on her beach, her life just gets more complicated. The man is Hunter - he knows that he is a werewolf, and he remembers his first name, but other than that things are a little bit foggy for him. He commits to helping Tessa, both with her stalker, and with her brother’s false conviction. But the more he becomes a part of Tessa’s life, the more complicated things get.

I enjoyed the werewolf lore that Spear has created for her books. I know that this is not the only one, although I haven’t read the others. Her werewolves live in packs, oftentimes related by family, but not always, and the alpha male (Hunter, for example) rules absolutely, along with his mate, if he has one. As with other werewolf romances the werewolves mate for life, which I always find a nice change from many other romances. It was actually kind of amusing how many werewolves kept popping up in this book - not just the main good guys and bad guys, but also nurses at the hospital, cops, judges, you name it. They’re everywhere. The romance was good, and overall the book was a good read. The murder mystery was a bit weak, but as that was not the main focus of the story, it didn’t necessarily have to be watertight. To Tempt the Wolf was a good introduction to Spear’s world of werewolf romance - I’d be interested to see how it works in her other books.

Cindy’s Love of Books Cindy Smith
I didn’t realize that this was the third in the book right away and that really didn’t make a difference in the book for me. It can be read as a stand alone. I do know that I will be ordering the other two previous books.

I really enjoyed the book and I have to admit that I managed to read this in a day. The story line just grabbed be from the beginning. Mind you the cover wasn’t bad to look at either.

This is the first time I have read anything by Terry Spears and I was not disappointed. She left me wanting more which any great book should do.

The book opens up with Tessa trying to help her brother get out of his wrongly convicted murder charge. When he is convicted she makes it her mission to find the person responsible and get her brother out of jail.

A upcoming storm puts a damper on her mission for a bit because as she is collecting wood she stumbles upon a naked man on the beach that is near her cabin in Oregon. She has no idea and neither does he. All that can seem to recall is his name, Hunter. She recues him and manages to get him back to her cabin.

Hunter has no memory of who he is or where he came from. He does remember that he is the Alpha male in a wolf pack although he can’t remember where the rest of his pack is. As a forest fire has driven the pack apart.

When he realizes he has to protect Tessa because she is being stalked and killed because she appears to know to much. To much about what though? He offers to help Tessa find the person responsible for the murder that her brother is being convicted of and to protect Tessa.

As the book progresses you see that Hunter is starting to fall in love with Tessa and wants no other wolf to claim her as his own. Hunter is a Royal and needs to find a Royal mate. Hunter isn’t the kind of wolf who turns humans into wolves no matter what. Will Hunter change his ways to protect Tessa?

There was alot of action that kept you on the edge of your seat and a little passion as well. I really suggest that when this book comes out on Sept 1 that you pick up a copy you won’t be disappointed.

Ramsey’s Reviews Amy Ramsey
As a professional photographer, Tessa Anderson is obsessed with photographing wolves. When a raging wildfire is reported in California, Tessa braves the fiery inferno to photograph nature during one of its deadliest moments. Everything was going smoothly until she’s attacked by an enraged wolf. Barely escaping the terrifying encounter, she notices the wolf’s unusual behavior, it seemed different compared to others of its kind, but being pressed for time, she considered the animal rabid. The only thing on Tessa’s mind is hiring a private investigator to get her brother, Michael, out of jail for a murder he did not commit. When she stumbles upon an unconscious, GOD-like hunk of a man, lying naked on the beach, her life begins to make a turn for the worst. Not only does the strange man, Hunter, have amnesia, but Tessa has a stalker that’s breaking into her house and her electricity is out, due to the oncoming of an ice storm.

Hunter is Alpha of a pack of shape shifting grey werewolves. He and his twin sister are in the process of evacuating California due to the wildfire. In hopes of reuniting with the rest of their pack members, Hunter and his obstinate sister, Meara, relocate to their Uncle’s house in Oregon. Before their Uncle retires to Florida, leaving them the house, he warns Hunter of the nosey neighbor, Tessa Anderson, who likes to roam around their property taking pictures and the potential danger of revealing what they are. After Hunter scents several male werewolves in the area, he returns home to find that his sister has been kidnapped and his attempt at saving her has literally lead him off a cliff.

Now in the arms of a beautiful redhead, Hunter is only aware of his werewolf abilities and his promise to help Tessa solve her brother’s case, proving that Michael is innocent, As their growing attraction develops, Tessa‘s fear of Hunter leaving increases, but without his protection she would become the stalker’s next victim. Will Hunter be able to regain his memory, before his sister and the woman he loves is claimed by another?

To Tempt the Wolf is an extremely enjoyable and fascinating read. I am impressed with the way Spears has added her own unique twist, mixing it into the realm of shape shifters. She has successfully achieved creating a story that the reader will become absorbed in. The characters are wrote exuding life-like characteristics, the background is full of vivid description, making it easy for the reader to visualize and the plot was perfectly blended, keeping the reader guessing till the end. I am left satisfied and anticipate Terry Spears next book. This book is recommended to any readers who have a taste for the Paranormal, Supernatural, Shape Shifter and Romance genres.

Bitten By Books
Although there are some references to past characters and one makes a cameo appearance, To Tempt the Wolf the third in Ms. Spear’s Wolf series, can be read as a stand-alone. The grey wolf pack led by Hunter Greymere is fleeing the forest fires in California and heading north when Hunter’s sister Meara disappears. In Oregon, wolves star in Tessa Anderson’s photos and in her brother Michael’s paintings. When Michael is found guilty of murder, Tessa vows to find the real killer. With an ice storm coming, Tessa hits the beach as soon as she gets home from the trial. She plans to scavenge driftwood for the fireplace but instead discovers an injured man, naked and nearly blue from the cold. The man, of course, is Hunter, but from that point on, there are loads of surprises.

To Tempt the Wolf is packed with action, mystery and romance, all woven together to make it a thrilling read. The story really moves, with each scene adding to the suspense and building to the climax. It is as packed with characters as the earlier novels, but this one has far more going on, so it grabbed my attention at the start and made me reluctant to put it down. Because he is an alpha, Hunter postures very often and is almost constantly heading off to save someone. Tessa is headstrong but also has a touch of insecurity when it comes to Hunter. They really click as a couple and add just the right zing to the erotic scenes. This one is my favorite so far, but be sure to read the others, Heart of the Wolf and Destiny of the Wolf, and watch for more in this sizzling series.

ParaNormal Reviews Karen Michelle Nutt
"A powerful paranormal with romance and mystery to solve"
Tessa Anderson is a wildlife photographer with an obsession with wolves, and her life is about to become very complicated. Her curiosity with wolves has a lupus garou (werewolf) interested in her. Her brother is convicted of a murder he didn’t commit and a naked man washed up on her beach in need of help since he can’t remember who he is.

Hunter Greymore is a lupus garou who recently made his home at his Uncle Basil’s Cabin. He has his hands full with his sister Meara, who is bound and determined to cause trouble if her brother doesn’t find her a mate. He also has to worry about his neighbor, Tessa Anderson, who is a human and obsessed with wolves. It’s forbidden for humans to know of their existence. If they find out, they must be killed or changed, neither one a good prospect in Hunter’s mind. When Hunter is attacked he ends up on Tessa’s beach injured and with his memory in shambles, other than he knows he’s not human. He promises to help Tessa free her brother and find the true murderer, while he does a little investigating of his own to find out who attacked him and why. His attraction to Tessa isn’t supposed to be, but the chemistry is there and Hunter will have to make a decision before it’s too late.

This tale has more twists and turns with every page. Not only is there a mystery of who the real murderer is, there is also a mystery surrounding Tessa and her brother’s life that dates back more than a century.

Ms. Spear writes a powerful paranormal with romances aplenty, suspense and mystery thrown together into one exciting plot.

To Tempt the Wolf is the third book in the series, but each book stands alone. I recommend you read Heart of the Wolf and Destiny of the Wolf, books one and two in the Werewolf series.

This was a nice esacape from reality. Steamy sex scenes and a really fun love story, with enough suspense and excitement to keep the pages turning.

Night Owl Romance Robin
Score: (5 out of 5)

Tessa Anderson is determined to find the person who killed her brother’s girlfriend. Unfortunately Tessa’s brother, Michael, was convicted of first-degree murder. Mow it is up to Tessa to prove he didn’t do it. Tessa works as a wildlife photographer. She is sent to take photos of the wildfire in California. While taking the photos of the fire, Tessa sees what she thinks is a naked man but when she looks again it is a wolf. She thinks she is just seeing things in the smoke from the fire. As she leaves the California wildfires and heads home to the Oregon coast, Tessa can’t help but have a very bad feeling about things to come. Hunter Greymere and his twin sister, Meara, are forced from their homes by the wildfire and so is the rest of their small pack. Some of the pack mates head to the city of Portland and some to the vineyards. Hunter and Meara go to their uncle’s place on the Oregon coast. Their uncle rents cabins to other lupus garou, now he wants to retire and move to Florida and leave the business to Hunter. Hunter loves the idea because it will be enough for the rest of the pack once they tire of life in the city. Hunter goes for a run to explore the new area, when he gets home his sister is gone. She has run off with three strange wolfs. When he goes looking for her, he is attacked and thrown off of a cliff into the sea. Now he has no memory but he knows what he is. He also knows that there is something different about Tessa but not what it is. Hunter has agreed to help her find the real killer of her brothers girlfriend and to protect her from a strange stalker.

Ms Spear has written another great werewolf story. This is number three in her werewolf series. If action, romance and suspense are what you are looking for in a story then look no further, you will find it all in Ms Spears werewolf series. Look for the next action packed story, Legend of the White Wolf, coming out in the spring of 2010.

Perfect for : Personal reading

In a nutshell: I thoroughly enjoyed To Tempt the Wolf, the latest paranormal romance book by Terry Spear! Let me start by saying that I had NO idea this was the third book in a series - it was easy to pick up as a stand alone, although now I can’t wait to get my hands on the first two books. The book was fast-paced and kept my attention the entire time. The storyline was a mix of romance, mystery and adventure - each in perfect harmony with the others.

Extended Review: Tessa Anderson and her brother Michael are both fascinated by wolves, and unbeknown to her, wolves seem to be fascinated by Tessa. The story starts in a fiery California forest, where Tessa (a professional photographer) is taking pictures of a wolf who turns and charges at her, and she has the strangest feeling that she has photographed that exact wolf before. She makes it to her car just in the nick of time and proceeds to leave the area. Tessa is currently living alone on the Oregon Coast in a cabin her grandfather left her and her brother. Her brother is in prison for murdering his girlfriend, but claims he is innocent. While collecting firewood along the beach near her cabin, Tessa comes upon a naked man who is almost dead. . . but not quite, so she helps him walk back to her cabin where she tries to get him some help. Hunter can’t remember anything except for his name, but he quickly realizes that Tessa is the target of a stalker, one who is more dangerous than she realizes. As he recovers, he decides that he is going to try to help get Tessa’s brother released from prison while eliminating the stalker. Sounds easy, but its not. . . facing power outages, ice storms and multiple threats, Hunter must try to keep Tessa safe while trying to figure out who he is.

Characters: I fell in love with all the characters. . . well, almost all of them (the stalker and the bad lupus garou/werewolves really were despicable). In fact, I enjoyed them so much that I’m going to have to go back and read Heart of the Wolf and Destiny of the Wolf to see if the characters pop up in either of the first two books!)

Story-Line: Fast-paced and attention grabbing with plenty of steamy moments throughout!

Readability: An enjoyable read.

Overall: I enjoyed it so much that I can’t wait to read the first two books, and am looking forward to the fourth book, Legend of the White Wolf, available in 2010. Don’t let the fact that this happens to be the third book in a series stop you from picking it up - I really had no problems reading it as a stand-alone, and it is now one of my favorite paranormal romances!

Hunter Greymore, an alpha lupus garou, or grey werewolf, has lost his pack. All but his sister have abandoned him due to a forest fire in California and because he refuses to move them to a city. They take up residence in Portland while he finds himself near the cliffs, in the woods. When three wolves take away his sister and he goes after them, Hunter is seriously injured. Tessa Anderson, a human woman who finds herself strangely attracted to wolves, finds him and brings him home. When Hunter discovers that a werewolf is stalking Tessa, he quickly realizes that he must do everything in his power to protect her, even if all he wants is to make her his mate for life.

This is the third book in a series, but I never would have noticed if it didn’t say so on the book and it stands alone very well. I hope that these characters appear in the next book, as I’ve grown fond of them, and I’m looking forward to reading the first two.

For all that the hero of this book is a werewolf (and so are many of the secondary characters), this was a nice romance. The hero isn’t threatening but the stalkers are, which means it’s much easier to champion Tessa with her rescuer than with anyone else, especially not her ex-boyfriend from high school. As a result, the couple worked nicely together, with a great dynamic of their own when it was allowed to come to the fore. At times it feels that the book focuses too much on constant threat and injuries instead of the developing romance, but that may be just a personal preference. For readers of romantic suspense, this wouldn’t be a problem.

Where this book truly shines is the werewolf society and the group dynamics amongst them. The sparring between the alpha leaders is top notch and it’s fascinating to see how wolf habits transcend into human behavior, such as how Hunter’s sister Meara is grumpy not only because she is experiencing her first werewolf “heat” but also has a very human desire for a relationship with someone who can match her in all of her strengths. Hunter is also torn because while he wants to make Tessa his mate, he doesn’t know whether or not she would be an alpha, and if she was a beta, she would never be able to exercise the authority that he does over the pack. It is an interesting, close look into the pack, although I found it a little strange that while Hunter’s pack and their friends are reluctant to turn people, the other packs are not. Perhaps Tessa is just the (un)lucky exception.

All in all, I enjoyed To Tempt the Wolf. It wasn’t an earth-shattering romance for me, and I could have done with less of the suspense, but I am definitely looking forward to following up with the rest of the series.

Fang-tastic Books Roxanne Rhoads
I love werewolves, they are up there on my favorite supernatural creatures list right under vampires- and I’m not even a dog person (LOL) but there’s something about wolves that I just adore and combining a hot man with the instincts and animalistic sexual energy of a wolf...so hot!

So I couldn’t wait to read the third instalment in Terry Spear’s werewolf series To Tempt the Wolf.

Hunter is a dark and sizzling alpha male hero that you are going to long for and Tessa is a strong female heroine that you can relate to: conflicted, troubled, and ready to do anything she can to help her brother prove his innocence.

This is a quick read, a page turning story that will pull you in and won’t let you go until you finally reach the last page. A pure delight to read.

The world is complex and believable (great werewolf storyline and authenticity) with secret undercurrents and troubling side characters that all blend together seamlessly while the main characters shine on the page. The chemistry between Hunter and Tessa is dynamic.

Throughout the story they have to deal with Tessa’s brother’s murder charge, a forest fire, Hunter losing part of his memory and being injured and needing to rediscover his past while Tessa investigates her brother’s murder charge..all while being hopelessly attracted to each other with heat that makes the pages smoke.

It is a suspense filled plot full of sizzling romance.

After a raging wildfire forces Hunter Greymore’s pack to flee their California home, he and his twin sister are forced to accept the hospitality of their Oregon based uncle. Hunter has little choice, with his pack in disarray and with few remote locations available to werewolves. His twin sister Meara is angry over her brother’s decision. Battling both her disappointment that her pack has decided to try city life without her, and her oncoming heat cycle, she is not making life easy for her brother. More tension arises when members of a rival pack come sniffing around and abduct Meara. Determined to bring his sister home and send her abductors packing, Hunter is badly injured in the deadly confrontation that ensues.

Wildlife photographer Tessa Anderson is beside herself when her brother is accused of murder and imprisoned. She certainly doesn’t have the time to care for the injured stranger she finds washed up on the beach. However, with an ice storm imminent, she has little choice but to offer him shelter. Unfortunately, all Hunter remembers is his first name and that he’s a lupus garou. As the storm rages, knocking out phone and electric lines, the pair have plenty of time to discover more about each other, even though Hunter knows he’s playing with fire. Nothing good ever came about from a human/werewolf pairing. But there is something about the attractive redhead he can’t resist. That she needs help to clear her brother’s name only ramps up Hunter’s protective nature. Unfortunately the real killer isn’t about to let the truth see the light of day.

Despite Spear’s use of two uninspired plot devices - the selective amnesia ploy and the leads fortuitously finding themselves cut off from civilization by a raging storm - the story does eventually get rolling once the author delves deeper into Hunter’s background and then as he and Tessa work together to clear her brother of murder charges. Spear sets up a nice aura of intrigue and adds to it by incorporating more of the pack dynamic surrounding her lupus garous. Add to that Tessa and Hunter’s hot romance - complete with an interesting werewolf/human twist - and To Tempt the Wolf makes a plausible and entertaining read.

Before I go any further, I should warn readers that To Tempt the Wolf is the third book in a series. If you are one of those people who can’t handle starting a series in the middle (you know who you are – and you can count me among your peers), you may want to read Heart of the Wolf and Destiny of the Wolf before diving into this volume. That being said, I didn’t actually know that this was the third book in a series when I started reading it, and it was as though I was reading a standalone book. I didn’t feel as though I was missing anything (which can sometimes happen), and while I will now go back and read the first two installments in this series, it really isn’t necessary to the enjoyment of this particular novel.

To Tempt the Wolf is a paranormal romance centering around werewolves, if you want to categorize it that way. However, it is also full of adventure and mystery, and should appeal to faithful readers of numerous genres. It is the story of photographer Tessa Anderson, who has had an inexplicable lifelong obsession with wolves. Scene one finds Tessa photographing a blazing California wildfire, and questioning her sanity for doing so. Her concentration, however, soon turns to taking pictures of a wolf that she spots lurking closely around. As she continues to take its pictures, an inkling of recognition begins to grow, and she has the funniest feeling of déjà vu, as though she has photographed this same wolf before. As she is taking pictures, the wolf charges her, and she barely makes it to her car before being attacked.

After returning home to her newly inherited cabin on the Oregon Coast, Tessa stumbles upon a naked man while collecting firewood on the beach. He is injured severely (near death); apparently as a result of his injuries, he is suffering from amnesia. The only memory he has is his name, which is Hunter. Despite the degree of his injuries, Hunter immediately realizes that Tessa is being stalked. Living alone in a fairly isolated area of Oregon, she is an easy target, and Hunter is determined to eliminate the stalker. And to help get her brother (who has been falsely accused of murder) released from prison.

While the task at hand may sound simple enough, winter is fast closing in on this desolate little stretch of land that Tessa calls home, bringing with it all of the fury one would expect from an Oregon winter. In addition, repeated threats are made against both Hunter and Tessa, and Hunter (bless his heart) doesn’t know who he is, where he’s come from, or who may have left him for dead. All in all, it made for a read that was at once charming, steamy, romantic, adventurous and mysterious.

While I am (admittedly) a paranormal romance buff, I also tend to prefer Vamp society to that of the Were’s. That being said, I loved this book. I will be hitting up Amazon.com in the very near future to procure volumes 1 and 2, and after reading them, I will be eagerly awaiting the release of volume 4, Legend of the White Wolf, in early 2010. Easily a 4 ½ star read –thoroughly engrossing and entertaining.

My thoughts: This was the third book in the series that includes Heart of the Wolf and Destiny of the Wolf - but it is not necessary to read them first to enjoy this book. I was drawn in immediately to the story and wanted Tessa and Hunter to hook up. There were a lot of secondary characters in the story which rounded out the plot and I felt gave it some humor. You had Ashton, Michael’s best friend and also the son of the local sheriff. Rourke - a wannabe newspaper reporter who is still harboring feelings for Tessa from high school. Cara, a lupus garou who works the night shift at the hospital as a nurse. Meara, Hunter’s sister and partly responsible for bringing Hunter and Tessa together. . .if she hadn’t run off with the three wolves, Hunter would not have been out tracking her down. Close to the end it seemed like there were a lot of peripheral characters brought in and I was occasionally lost as to who was who. In spite of this, I did enjoy this book very much and have hopes to read the first two in the future.

My thoughts:

Tessa Anderson finds a naked man who had nearly drowned, and appears to have amnesia. His memory returns in bits and pieces, but in the meantime Hunter Greymore, and alpha werewolf, vows to help Tessa prove her brother innocent of murder and get him out of jail. There’s much more going on though, and someone is out to eliminate everyone in his way to claiming Tessa for himself.

To Tempt the Wolf is the third installment in the werewolf series by Terry Spear. Each release has been even more exciting than the last, and they can also be read as stand-alones. The non-stop action, chilling mystery, and fast-blooming romance combine to make this a book that you won’t want to set down. If you enjoy reading mystery with a healthy dose of paranormal elements and a steamy romance, this is a story that you’re sure to enjoy.

"A powerful paranormal with romance and mystery to solve."

Review From Here Tracee Gleichner
This is the first book in this series that I have read but it can easily stand on its own. Hunter Greymer is leader of his werewolf pack and with that comes a ton of responsiblity. The pack is forced to disperse after wildfires take over their land and he takes his sister, Meara, with him to go and stay on the Oregon coast and take care of their uncle’s property. Their uncle is aware of a photographer that has been taking photographs of the wildlife and land and warns Hunter that it could compromise their position if she gets too close to their secret – if one of them was caught in a shift all hell would break loose.

Meara is unable to sit still and goes off looking for someone to share her time with – a mate. This selfish act causes her brother to almost lose his life – instead he loses his memory. Lucky for him a beautiful woman stumbles upon him, what he doesn’t know is that Tessa is the woman that his uncle has warned him about. Will he be able to ignore the attraction he feels to her and protect his pack from someone who might pry a little too deep? Or will he fall for Tessa and give in to a love that may be once in a lifetime?

Very well written and fun to read, I recommend this to anyone that likes romance, paranormal, or any combination of the two.
