Praise for Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans

"A decade after his passing, Harry Caray’s talent, vitality, and one of a kind personality can still be felt. Pat Hughes’ book is a labor of love and Harry’s countless fans are bound to love it too." —Bob Costas

"This collection is a delight for any fan of the larger-than-life Caray." —Carrie Muskat, MLB.com

"Colorful and informative." —Fred Mitchell, Chicago Tribune “Around Town” Columnist

WGN announcer Pat Hughes presents Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans, an audio/photo tribute to one of the most beloved figures in baseball. Caray's personality was as much a part of his charm as his broadcasting skill, and even 10 years after his death, baseball fans across the country recall Caray fondly, both for his play-by-play calls and his genuinely excited "Holy Cow!" exclamations during the games.

Pat Hughes has compiled Caray's most famous calls and broadcasts onto a CD that accompanies the book. By combining Harry's voice with photos and stories of the Cards and Cubs, Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans will give readers not only a fond memory of Caray, but also a "where were you when...?" for many famous games, such as Ryne Sandberg's double game-tying home runs in 1984.

“Hello again, everybody!”

For more than 50 years, we settled in with Harry Caray to enjoy the Cubs, Sox or Cards. Week after week, on the radio or TV, Harry was the voice of baseball in Chicago and St. Louis.

“You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark!”

Harry Caray brought ballgames to life and spoke for the fans with his enthusiastic broadcasts. Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans lets you hear Harry again:

  • Gasping as Ryne Sandberg twice ties the game with home runs on June 23, 1984
  • Enlivening the St. Louis Cardinals’ pennant run in 1964 and the Chicago Cubs’ playoff stretch in 1984
  • Commiserating with the Chicago White Sox during the 1970s
  • And of course, singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”

Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win!”
