Assistant Production Manager

Sourcebooks is looking for an outstanding individual to join our production department and that may be you! Your keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, service-oriented attitude, and strong design background are the foundation for success. Love to work on teams? We need a team-oriented individual who will be able to collaborate well with editors, production editors, copyeditors, proofreaders, designers, and manufacturing coordinators to deliver books of exceptional quality.

Your previous InDesign composition experience and working knowledge of XHTML and CSS is a plus. Composition knowledge is required to flow book pages using xml and styles, solve page errors, such as fixing hyphenation, widows and orphans, or more complicated problems with tables, footnotes, and indexes. Production Editor – Gift and Calendars

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the creation of a variety of special gift titles and calendars from inception to completion by working hand-in-hand with Sourcebooks’ editorial and design teams.
  • Serve as the project coordinator/liaison on all titles in the gift and calendar space as well as provide support to the regionalized division.

Editorial Assistant – Part Time, Connecticut Office

Sourcebooks is seeking an outstanding individual to join our editorial department as a part-time Editorial Assistant in the Milford, Connecticut office. The Editorial Assistant will support all editorial aspects of book publishing for the Connecticut office and Casablanca imprint of the New York office, including: processing and evaluating submissions, market research, writing and editing sales materials, drafting back cover copy and other marketing material, light developmental and line editing, drafting, copyediting and proofreading catalog pages, and administrative duties. This position reports to the Senior Content Editor for Sourcebooks’ Casablanca fiction imprint.

This growth position allows the employee to learn the acquisition and development process, sharpen organization and process management skills, and work with remarkable authors while supporting various department functions, acquiring editors, and book and product lines.

Responsibilities include:

Freelance page production and graphic design positions

Sourcebooks, Inc., a leading independent book publisher located in the western suburbs of Chicago, is currently seeking local freelance talent to support our production department. This opportunity may require some on-site work throughout the year, but can also be handled remotely after training is completed. Tasks would include but are not limited to page production and corrections and ebook development and design.

Qualifications:

  • Must be technically savvy and thoroughly proficient using the Macintosh OSX platform; proficient in InDesign CS5 or higher, Illustrator, Photoshop and various Adobe software a must.
  • Set up master pages, style sheets, colors, etc. in InDesign
  • Produce book internals and templates using styles
  • Flow in digital text from editorial, correctly format all internal elements; prepare pages for intermediate proofing and final digital files for print vendor

Key Features / Deliverables for titles are:

  • Cover conception requires a minimum of three distinct covers.
  • Final delivery will include fully designed book covers (front cover, spine, back cover) in both application and PDF file formats ready for printer.
  • All source design files must be in InDesign and Adbobe CS5 applications in a Mac compatible formats.
  • All work is for hire, and all source files, including fonts, etc. are to be transferred for project to be complete.
