Your previous InDesign composition experience and working knowledge of XHTML and CSS is a plus. Composition knowledge is required to flow book pages using xml and styles, solve page errors, such as fixing hyphenation, widows and orphans, or more complicated problems with tables, footnotes, and indexes. Production Editor

Sourcebooks, Inc., seeks an outstanding individual to join our Content Delivery department as a production editor. The ideal candidate for this job would have at least 2 years related experience in book or newspaper publishing, a strong attention to details, and have a passion for managing processes and schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage schedules defined by director of production
  • Develop and manage processes and schedules for digital initiatives as needed
  • Manage workflow of print and ebooks through the development process, hitting all scheduled benchmark dates or projecting new benchmarks as needed and alerting all team members to any delays
  • Work with the editorial and production teams to ensure all outstanding issues have been resolved

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for development and planning for strategically driven projects that are in close connection to what our consumers and our retailers want and need
  • Concept and propose new titles and projects, recruit authors, screen author proposals, conduct contract negotiations with authors and agents
  • Utilizing internal and external data, identify market needs and analyze product metrics including sales performance, key consumer data, costs, and profitability

Web Project Administrator

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for initial project scoping; development of the web production schedule; and coordination of design, content, development, testing, and deployment to ensure delivery of the project on schedule and on strategy. Review business requirements and generate new specs for a wide variety of projects and tasks.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks through full lifecycle within timeline.
  • Project manage task load of programming projects
  • Work with internal teams and developers to bring new products online. Ensure product are developed to spec and pass all Quality Control.
  • Work with multiple departments to access and development new functionally and enhancements
  • Work with XML feeds to integrate internal and 3rd party systems together
  • QA all programming changes, fixes and updates as needed, working with the development and test sites to ensure functionality
  • Maintain ecommerce and CMS platforms for sites, utilizing, but not limited to: Magento, Joomla, WordPress, Blogs, CMS, CSS, PHP, MYSQL an etc.
  • Code pages in CSS, HTML, XML and php
  • Collaborate in a team environment in order to grow and enhance our network of sites

This opportunity may require some on-site work throughout the year, but can also be handled remotely after training is completed. Tasks would include but are not limited to page production and corrections and ebook development and design.

Qualifications:

  • Must be technically savvy and thoroughly proficient using the Macintosh OSX platform; proficient in InDesign CS5 or higher, Illustrator, Photoshop and various Adobe software a must.
  • Set up master pages, style sheets, colors, etc. in InDesign
  • Produce book internals and templates using styles
  • Flow in digital text from editorial, correctly format all internal elements; prepare pages for intermediate proofing and final digital files for print vendor
  • Thorough understanding of file types and their attributes (EPS, INDD, PSD, TIF, JPEG and so on)
  • Familiarity with ebooks a plus, specifically epub2 or epub3, iBooks author also a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems that may arise

We are looking for talented freelance book cover designers for the following categories:

Key Features / Deliverables for titles are:

  • Cover conception requires a minimum of three distinct covers.
  • Final delivery will include fully designed book covers (front cover, spine, back cover) in both application and PDF file formats ready for printer.
  • All source design files must be in InDesign and Adbobe CS5 applications in a Mac compatible formats.
  • All work is for hire, and all source files, including fonts, etc. are to be transferred for project to be complete.
