Digital Production Specialist

We require a degree in web design or a minimum of 2 years’ related experience as well as on-site availability in our Naperville office.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of digital book formats such as .ePub (International Digital Publishing Forum Open eBook standard), .prc/.mobi (for Amazon), PDF (Adobe's portable document format), etc.
  • Knowledge of e-Reader applications and devices such as Apple's iPad, Amazon's Kindle, Adobe Digital Editions, B&N's Nook, VitalSource, Sony Tablet, etc.
  • Knowledge of digital book creation software such as InDesign CS6's export to ePub, KindleGen, iBooks Author, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of html/xhtml structure and CSS coding.

Creative Director

Sourcebooks is looking for another fearless leader to join our innovative team, in the role of Creative Director.
The Creative Director’s responsibility is to maintain and grow all aspects of creative deliverables for Sourcebooks, with a focus on creating the most interesting and eye catching covers across multiple imprints. You will drive the creative vision, voice, and presentation across all internal and external touch points for Sourcebooks. The Creative Director is responsible for the decision making in regards to in-progress deliverables and ultimately responsible for the delivery of final cover designs across the creative department.

Production Editor – Trade Publishing

Sourcebooks is seeking an outstanding individual to join our Content Delivery department as a Production Editor. The ideal candidate for this job would have at least 2 years related experience in book or newspaper publishing, a strong attention to details, and have a passion for managing processes and schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage schedules defined by director of production
  • Develop and manage processes and schedules for digital initiatives as needed
  • Manage workflow of print and ebooks through the development process, hitting all scheduled benchmark dates or projecting new benchmarks as needed and alerting all team members to any delays
  • Work with the editorial and production teams to ensure all outstanding issues have been resolved
  • Communicate queries at copyediting and proofreading stage to appropriate team members for resolution
  • Shepherd materials through the editorial department in preparation for production
  • Maintain knowledge of individual licensors requirements for approval and make sure all approvals are met.
  • Update schedules daily, marking tasks complete and update project status as needed.

Editorial Production Intern
Sourcebooks, Inc., a leading book publisher located in the western suburbs of Chicago, seeks an outstanding individual to intern as part of our Editorial Production department. This position will support the editorial production team for approximately 20 hours a week.

Primary responsibility will be to provide editorial production support on assigned titles

  • Reviewing manuscripts to be prepared for copyediting
  • Reviewing copyedits and queries to be addressed by authors
  • Reviewing pdf mark-up and preparing pages for proofreading, page corrections
  • Shepherding parts of projects through the editorial production process
  • Light copyediting and proofreading as assigned
  • Quality check for page corrections as they are returned from production, including first page checks prior to proofreading and supporting production editors on final checks of pages before closing to manufacturing
  • Quality checks of ebooks and digital projects on various e-reading devices and tablets
  • Other duties as assigned by intern manager

Requirements

  • Attention to detail; ability to take direction and follow through
  • Detail- and deadline-oriented across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organization skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
  • Coursework in English, Literature, Writing, and Editing recommended
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications a plus
