Kara Louise grew up in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles. She moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1991 with her husband and son. She now lives just outside Wichita on 10 acres where she and her husband have a big garden, 3 horses, 2 goats, 6 cats, and a dog. Their son is married and lives in St. Louis. She began writing stories based on Pride and Prejudice in 2001 and has written 6 novels based on that story.

Originally from Los Angeles, Kara Louise now resides just outside Wichita, Kansas with her husband. She began writing in 2001 and has written 6 novels based on Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." In addition to writing, she works at her church doing the publications. She has a married son who lives in St. Louis, Missouri.

• What is your book about? Please provide a description.
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy meet on a ship bound for America. The name of the ship is Pemberley's Promise and is actually owned by Mr. Darcy. He is sailing to America to retrieve his sister. She traveled there with her governess, Mrs. Annesley, whose son and his wife lived there. Mrs. Annesley thought it would be good to get Georgiana as far away from George Wickham as possible. Elizabeth is going to New York to visit her aunt and uncle. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy meet on the ship, and what happens on the ship directly affects the events of "Pride and Prejudice" that Jane Austen penned when they both return to England, but with a slight twist that I hope you will enjoy.
• How long have you been at work on this book?
It took me about 3 months to originally write "Darcy's Voyage" (in 2003), but I think I have been tweaking it ever since self-publishing it in 2007.
• How did the idea originate?
This book had 3 different inspirations. The first was in reading the book, "Three Years Before the Mast" by Henry Dana. It was a chronicle of life at sea in the mid 1800s. I knew I wanted to write a story of Elizabeth and Darcy on a ship. There is a prologue to the story where Elizabeth and Darcy initially meet in a carriage. This enounter teases their memory once they meet on the ship. I had actually written this with another story in mind, but decided to insert it into this one. And finally, one day as I was considering the story of Pride and Prejudice, I wondered what would have happened if George Wickham had seen Mr. Darcy in Meryton that first day he met the Bennet ladies, but Mr. Darcy had not seen him. I wondered what mischief he could get into. That scene became a part of the book, but not a starting point for my story.
• Did the book entail any unusual writing habits or places?
My favorite place to write is outside on our back patio in a hanging hammock chair with my laptop, bottle of water, and IPOD.
