Agile Publishing Model.

Futurist David Houle

Welcome to the future!  The future of humanity and the future of publishing.

I am very excited about my new book Entering the Shift Age and the new model of publishing Sourcebooks has created, the Agile Publishing Model (APM). The APM is an innovative platform that allows authors to make their content available faster and in a more flexible format. For example, to suit your needs and interests as readers, Sourcebooks offers a variety of ways to purchase the content of Entering the Shift Age, either in individual parts (“mini eBooks”) or as a whole. (Check out “How to Purchase: The Agile Way”.) You can learn more about the APM by watching the video below.

This is part of the future of publishing. Now let’s turn toward our own future, the future of humanity.

We now live in the Shift Age, a time of transformation that will be regarded by future historians as one of the most significant periods in human history. The Shift Age is one of those inflection points or times when much of humanity will change how we live, how we think, how we interact with each other and what we do.

Entering the Shift Age by David Houle Part OneWelcome, and thank you again for signing up to participate in the development of my latest book. We now begin the content review process of the Agile Publishing Model with Part One of my new book Entering the Shift Age.  You will see both the tentative table of contents and Part One (Introduction, Chapter One, and Chapter Two) available for reading and commenting.

The table of contents is a guide for what lies ahead in terms of subject matter.  If you know people who you think may add value, insight and direction on any of the upcoming topics, please feel free to invite them to sign up here and join in the APM process.  The table of contents will most likely change, particularly Parts Three and Four, as those parts are currently in notes and outline form.  I expect that changes will come as well from input from you and others in this shared creative community.

I hope you enjoy the Introduction and Part One.  I look forward to your comments. While I am always interested in any of your comments, I am particularly interested in those suggestions that might lead me to a new resource, individual or research that may enhance the book.

As a futurist I am particularly excited about creating this new APM with Sourcebooks as the nature, shape, and form of publishing is now undergoing transformative change.  This will continue into the future for a number of years.  I think that the APM will become one of the new ways that books are published in the Shift Age.  So, welcome to the Agile Publishing Model and welcome to the Shift Age!

David, I heard you speak in Lexington with Dr. Karen Woodward in early May. I spoke with you about the changes we are forging at my school. I asked you the question about whether we are making this shift in schools more difficult than it needs to be. Perhaps you may remember.

I am extremely interested in joining your efforts as we live in exponentially rapid change. Would you be interested in hearing from a school perspective, with contributions from a student or two, about the differences they have experienced when the time factor is removed from their school education so that they can learn at their rate and within their interests?

I am in an elementary school and I hope you will be able to visit us the next time you come to Lexington, SC...not far from Winthrop!

About Entering the Shift Age

Entering the Shift Age by David Houle

Change is everywhere: in how we communicate, what we do for a living, the values we hold, the way we raise our children, even the way we access information. Thanks to a global economy, the force of the Internet, and the explosion of mobile technology, we have—almost imperceptibly—entered into a new era, the Shift Age, in which change happens so quickly that it’s become the norm. We’re undergoing a major collapse of legacy thinking that is eroding many of the thought structures that defined the last 200 years. What are some of the new forces that will shape our lives in the next 20 years?

  • Remote workplaces
  • The cloud
  • 24/7 culture
  • Speed-of-light connectivity
  • The influence of Millennials and Digital Natives
  • And more!

There is no going back to the way things were before. Reality is changing fast, and Entering the Shift Age is your guide to keeping up.
