Welcome to the future! The future of humanity and the future of publishing.
I am very excited about my new book Entering the Shift Age and the new model of publishing Sourcebooks has created, the Agile Publishing Model (APM). The APM is an innovative platform that allows authors to make their content available faster and in a more flexible format. For example, to suit your needs and interests as readers, Sourcebooks offers a variety of ways to purchase the content of Entering the Shift Age, either in individual parts (“mini eBooks”) or as a whole. (Check out “How to Purchase: The Agile Way”.) You can learn more about the APM by watching the video below.
This is part of the future of publishing. Now let’s turn toward our own future, the future of humanity.
We now live in the Shift Age, a time of transformation that will be regarded by future historians as one of the most significant periods in human history. The Shift Age is one of those inflection points or times when much of humanity will change how we live, how we think, how we interact with each other and what we do.
The Digital Natives will be even freer of any legacy thinking of gender roles. Equality, a global view, connectivity, and the screen reality guide this generation from their earliest experiences. As adults, they will learn about the history of gender inequality and the mistreatment of women through the 20th century and be stunned how unfair and barbaric it was.
These two generations will test the subservient status of women in religions, particularly the ultra conservative or conservative arms, like none before them. Not only is it not of their generations to understand it, is of their generations to be globally connected. Girls raised in such religions where women are not equal have historically accepted such inequality as that is how they were brought up. Now, with global connectivity they will see that other girls their age are treated equally.
One of the truly great qualities of the Accelerated Electronic Connectedness force is that it can and will obliterate ignorance. Sects and cults, and to some degree the extreme conservative parts of traditional religions, have always used isolation or separation for thought control, keeping information out except what the leaders want their followers to be exposed to. Now that humanity is universally connected such control will be challenged and tested by these Shift Age generations.
As first discussed in Part Two, we now live in two realities, physical reality and screen reality. We live in a broadband world, so we have the physical reality of where we are and the screen reality we can access wherever we are. Prior to the Accelerated Electronic Connectedness of humanity, there was only physical reality to manage. Screen reality, as discussed in other chapters, is morphing much more rapidly than the physical reality and is in fact is dramatically altering the physical reality.
Screen reality is gender neutral. Any physical inequalities or gender distinctions do not exist on screen reality. As the world moves ever more into screen reality, the historical gender distinctions based in physical reality mentioned earlier become ever more antiquated.
Screen reality is the one moving us toward the new consciousness of the Shift Age. The screen reality is also the one that the Shift Age generations grew and are growing up with so this amplifies even more the equalizing effect of screen reality for all of humanity, let alone women. The ever greater emphasis on the screen reality we have all experienced in recent years deemphasizes the physical reality that men have historically dominated with physical strength.
