Welcome to the future! The future of humanity and the future of publishing.
I am very excited about my new book Entering the Shift Age and the new model of publishing Sourcebooks has created, the Agile Publishing Model (APM). The APM is an innovative platform that allows authors to make their content available faster and in a more flexible format. For example, to suit your needs and interests as readers, Sourcebooks offers a variety of ways to purchase the content of Entering the Shift Age, either in individual parts (“mini eBooks”) or as a whole. (Check out “How to Purchase: The Agile Way”.) You can learn more about the APM by watching the video below.
This is part of the future of publishing. Now let’s turn toward our own future, the future of humanity.
We now live in the Shift Age, a time of transformation that will be regarded by future historians as one of the most significant periods in human history. The Shift Age is one of those inflection points or times when much of humanity will change how we live, how we think, how we interact with each other and what we do.
In other words, the evolutionary consciousness shift that will define the Shift Age will be hard to accept as a probable reality from the vantage point of 2012. It will begin to come to us in a succession of technological innovations bringing our thoughts ever closer to each other. Bringing the ability to share experiential sensorial feelings with others where we can actually sense their emotions.
First, new devices will come along in the next few years that will be smaller and more multi-functional than anything available today. We will have a continuing cascade of new gadgets that will empower us in ways we cannot yet fathom. For example, something like a small headset that will do whatever your voice says to do, no matter where you are. Call your son, change the thermostat, move documents, pictures and videos to anywhere in the world.
Think of a device the size of your current app phone that is a holographic portal for a global meeting where you are all present in real time with realistic views of each other around a conference table. Global, holographic real time collaboration taking a leap beyond video conferencing will not only further eliminate place and distance, it will create interactive dynamics that are 3-D not 2-D. You may actually hug a loved one and feel it, regardless of where that loved one is.
[Sound like science fiction? Go back and read those predictions of 2000 that you would have also thought science fiction.]
So we ascend to the technological level of brain wave and thought connectivity.
Second, there will be significant collective thought that will increasingly course through all communication channels as memes, thus developing a collective level of thought that takes the Memes to Movements concept to a more immediate and experiential level. The above mentioned technology will increasingly connect our thoughts will others on a massive, rapid way. So we almost instantaneously connect with each other. Think of the speed of the Occupy movement. Think of the speed that information courses through social media in 2012.
